Ahh seems that I've run into a problem with a semi-old house about 3 years old now. The mouse appears to not to connect to my usb drive at all now. It will work some days, and more weeks it will not work. Anyone have any idea why that is?

I'm no technology expert or anything, but it sounds like you damaged the usb somehow.
I had a logitech mouse about a year ago, and the same problems started occuring after I had accidentally dropped my ashtray on it while it was still in the usb port.
Just sounds like you need a new mouse, and since its 3 years old, you pretty much got what you paid for; correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree. You're really lucky it lasted that long. I use a labtop, but my boyfriend uses a desktop. He's never had a mouse last that long and he's really careful with his things.

Check with logitech support, the mouse might still be under warranty. I think they give 3 to 5 years depending on the model.

I dunno man. I returned the first (and only) wireless mouse I ever got because the batteries exploded and damaged the unit when I put it in the recharger all within 20 minutes of using it. The way I see it, as long as the wired mouse has a laser and not a track-and-ball, I don't see it as too big of a deal.

I don't know if I was particularly unlucky or if it was a dumb idea to put it in the recharger so soon after using it.

If other things you plug into that USB slot are still working, then that means your mouse has gone bad. Oh and wired mouses aren't so bad. You don't have to ever replace the batteries or deal with any annoying delay.
