I think someone got a breast cancer ad a couple years ago, so I suspect this has been going on for awhile.

Why don't you answer one of those ads and see where it leads?

There are a lot of adult neopians playing, but they do need to changed the filters on who can see those types of ads.

I've noticed that on most sites, the ads reflect something I've already used a search engine for. Posted Image

Could only wish/hope/pray that Neopets will one day not be as skewed towards kids like it was back in the day. :(

As far as the actual ads go though...
Is it possible that ads are based on the age associated with your account?
Granted this wouldn't prevent some kid from saying they're 18+ and seeing these types ads, but it could explain it.
Don't have a young account to know for certain either way.
Besides, adblock/flashblock ftw. :)

Even if kids are allowed to see it though, suspect this is their thinking at this point:
"Screw the rules, I have money."

You guys realize that you put in your birthdate when you register right? Are you registering as someone over 18? That might change which ads you get and which ones are filtered out.

What surprises me is that you still SEE the ads. Most people block them out. I never give the ads a second look.

I would agree, and it's not the advertizements...

But I think it's ironic how TNT is cracking down on being a "kid" friendly fouurm on the neobourds :p

Ads are based on what you view throughout the internet. Ever wonder why some kids get toy ads while other people who browse get Viagra ads etc?

Everything is recorded and then they show you what you have been browsing, usually in a specific category, eg. Sex, Games, MMOs.

Neopets is still a kids site, despite it being around for a long time now. Yes, long-time users will have evolved, but new younger users will have joined. You only have to look at the changes they've made around the site - i.e. neoboards, to show that the site is still primarily aimed at kids.

I don't see the ads because of premium but prior to logging in etc I tend to only see child-friendly adverts suggesting that age may be a factor, as well as previous browsing history etc.

Thank you two for having some sense. It made me happy to read these comments.
The rest just angered me.

I think when you put the date of birth in when you register determines the type of ads you see, since it knows the players age, it can show age appropriate ads. That's pretty much the filter. I think.

It's based on your age settings and the cookies your computer has, that is the final answer.
We have rehashed this several times.
