Wasn't there an issue where a lot of kids were seeing those Viagra ads a while back? Then when parents contacted TNT about it they were basically like "we hire a company to take care of our advertising and we're not going to do anything about it lolbye" or something? Like everyone else in this thread I use AdBlock so I never see this bullshit, but IMO they shouldn't even be displaying those ads to accounts with the age listed over 18. It's still a child-oriented website.

I really don't think that they care enough to monitor the ads.

Top of my screen just saw some dating ads from Zoosk or something :S

i thought Neopets was for kids?

if my child was playing and i saw that id be like this is some adult site get off now :p

TNT need to change rules >_<

That's the ad network fault - not Neopets.
They'll need to block the ads.

I am not even kidding I saw an add for a stripping club on Neopets before...
There was a half naked lady on a pole swinging around and it was like "come down to wherever for a peep show!"

I was just like 0_o

As the user have said from before, the ads are probably from google, and the age you have indicated when you have signed up for your account. The ads are very annoying and lag so much of the page up, i just use adblock to get them away.

It sucks that there was once a policy in TNT to not put advertisements around the website, then came Viacom, and well, TNT really did TNT itself.

When I was a teenage boy growing up just as the internet started becoming fully developed, with no filters or parental guidance whatsoever... I believe a pole dancing half naked lady would not have phased me in the slightest bit.

I sometimes used the computer labs to play Neopets whilst at university. Since we weren't allowed to install stuff, I had to suffer through ads - most of which seemed to be for German plastic surgery.

It certainly wasn't my browsing history they were getting ad info from, that's for sure.

Neopets started out as a website for college kids, then was bought out by Viacom and now it's all Nick-related stuff so yeah, now it's supposed to be a kid's site..

But you gotta realize that Viacom's just out for the $money$ so they couldn't care less what ads your kid sees as long as it makes revenue.
Even if it's based on your internet searches and history it wouldn't really matter because I think that's an excuse they give to parents who are concerned about the ads, no matter if it's true or not. :p (if that made any sense?)

Ads are based on what you view throughout the internet. Ever wonder why some kids get toy ads while other people who browse get Viagra ads etc?

Everything is recorded and then they show you what you have been browsing, usually in a specific category, eg. Sex, Games, MMOs.

LOL I honestly in my browser, I see almost all types of ads S:
until I saw ads for slimming LOL

I'm not sure whether kids will even pay any attention to the ads while browsing Neopets, so maybe there's no damage done lol

Well hopefully they don't have access to any payment methods required to purchase things online. Though I guess child directed ads are designed so that kids will nag their parents and not purchase things outright

I find neo isnt much of a kid's site anymore in general (not just the ads). I've been an on and off member for a long time and now that I am playing again I've realized how much I completely missed out on when I was younger because I just didnt understand. I find there are a lot of different aspects that can be appealing to all ages :)

I was going to say, it's based on your google searches, but then I remember that Neopets blocks alot of ads. There's a link called, "Neopets Ads" at the bottom. I don't know why you got those weird ads. I've seen taxes alot, though.
