Maybe they are adding a large load of new content (hoping it is a new plot). I hope it is a plot where Dr. Sloth returns with mind-controlling petpetpets and anybody who attaches one to a petpet will be forced to join Dr. Sloth or have a neopet with a disease (which causes permanent 0 HP so the neopet can't back) that can't be cured until the last part of the plot. If that is a plot, I would join Dr. Sloth from the start and help by gifting the petpetpets to top players before people find out what is going on.

You will never know. They must be doing a major change or be having a major problem for such a long downtime. I wonder if this has anything to do with what happened to Neggsweeper.

EDIT: I'm starting wish that Alexa has an hourly stats update so I could see how fast players will return from the downtime.

I wouldn't think something like neggsweeper would cause this. Unless there are actual negg mines that need to be swept in their office...

I bet major upgrades are done during maintenance windows just like in most major companies... less of a customer impact that way.... and on a holiday?... I'm sure they expect kids to be home tuning into their website...

They (or somebody else) could have found the same vulnerability used by the cheater and need to fix it before any further damage occurs. They had to take Neggsweeper down for days from what I remember and if the same bug is discovered throughout the site, there would have to be a major downtime to the entire site to fix it.
