My personal guilty pleasure is The Madding Crowd by Nine Days. The band gained instant popularity (and a number 6 single on Billboard) from the song Absolutely, also known as Story of a Girl. The band is characterized variously as indie (they released three independently produced albums prior to The Madding Crowd with Sony), power pop, and alternative.
I like the album because the lyrics resonated with me from a young age, even if the music is basic (power chords and cymbal rock) and the vocals are quite horrid.
A few songs from the album for your consideration:

In this thread:
- Name a band/album/song that you like despite it's shortcomings
- Elaborate on those shortcomings
- Perhaps provide a link to the track(s) you bring up
Have fun making fun of my early music taste
