We all do it. If you deny doing so, you just don't yet know that some of your music sucks. I'm sure half of the females here have a Brittany album, or an NSync tune or two. And the boys will all probably have a Greenday album even if their not punk, or a Smashmouth song or two. It's a fact of life that we don't make great choices when we're young, particularly when it comes to music.

My personal guilty pleasure is The Madding Crowd by Nine Days. The band gained instant popularity (and a number 6 single on Billboard) from the song Absolutely, also known as Story of a Girl. The band is characterized variously as indie (they released three independently produced albums prior to The Madding Crowd with Sony), power pop, and alternative.

I like the album because the lyrics resonated with me from a young age, even if the music is basic (power chords and cymbal rock) and the vocals are quite horrid.

A few songs from the album for your consideration:

In this thread:

  • Name a band/album/song that you like despite it's shortcomings
  • Elaborate on those shortcomings
  • Perhaps provide a link to the track(s) you bring up

Have fun making fun of my early music taste :D

I do enjoy The Backstreet Boys every once in a while when I'm driving with my friends. So embarrassing. You should definitely see the looks we get.

Yeah... that's a shit song. Sorry. I don't see much redeeming quality. There are better songs for boom badoom boom.

Whatever happened to that ho?

Are you saying everything by those artists is shit? Because I don't mind Rihanna. I don't buy her albums, but I don't turn her off when she comes on the radio. I just listened to Party Rock Anthem for the first time today. Well, first time besides the Kia Soul commercials. Not a bad song.

She's still around...on the radio and stuff.

Rihanna's really hot. She also has a nice voice. End of compliments.

I am forever disgusted with myself that I know all the words to Sk8er Boi by Avril and In The End by Linkin Park. God. Damn. It.

And I still have no idea how that happened.

I hate how most of the playlist I have in my car consists of shit music (like pop, dubstep, etc.), but I have them because I have an awesome sound system and I dance in my car >.> Also I go BOOM BOOM BOOM down the street haha, I love it.
But at home i only listen to my good stuff. Idk, I'm weird.

Nickelback.

I hate them because so many of their popular songs could be played simultaneously and sound exactly the same.

Same key same tempo same structure... and yet I love them anyway
