Hey guys! I am currently in exchange in Montreal, however, I'll be making a short trip to NY prior to heading back to my home. My friends and I would be spending roughly 3 days there ( yes I know its short, but we dont have the time!).

Some of the places we would like to visit
1) Woodsbury premium outlets
2) Times Square
3) Madison Square Garden
4) Grand Centre Terminal
5) Rockefeller Centre
6) Wall Street/Financial Bull
7) Brooklyn Bridge
8) Ground zero ( if we still have the time!)

As such, I would like to seek advice on accommodations. We are a group of 3 people, so I was thinking perhaps an apartment, but I have yet to find a suitable one. Oh yea, we do have a budget of 150 dollars per night as well :(

You can manage most of these things in one long day, so you'll have plenty of time within three. Everything is within walking/subway distance.

Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry at South Ferry. It is right by Wall St. and it will give you a nice view of the Statue of Liberty. It's free to ride. I don't particularly see the attraction since I take it so often, but whenever I ride there are always tons of tourists taking photos on the outer deck.

As for arrangements, I don't know where to tell you to stay. That's a tight budget for three people in a place where it's already extremely expensive. I'd think that you may try to pick up something on a travel deal site.

If you have any questions that aren't hotel related, let me know. I can probably point you in a few cool directions.

Thanks guys!

Random - I was thinking of woodsbury for a 1 day, cause I heard you need to take a bus to and fro for 40 bucks or so, and yes we do have a girl thats coming with us, and we all know that means we need more time allocated to shopping itself. Hopefully we could slot in a visit to broadway in the evening/night.

Day 2 - Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Grand Central Terminal and Rockefeller Centre( is it better to visit it at night? I heard the night view is better)

Day 3 - Take the ferry ( your recommendation), Wall St + Financial Bull, Ground zero, Pier 17 and visiting the brooklyn bridge.

What do you think of this plan? Would be nice if you could provide me with the best possible directions from a place to the other! Or if you think we should visit place A before B etc.

Oh yes, the trip would most likely be from 28th to 30th Apr :)

Soul stealer - We are not exactly picky about the accoms, but that being said, we would still prefer private bathrooms and would like to prioritize safety and accessibility to where we would like to visit..

Many thanks!

As of now, we are looking at apartments in www.airbnb.com. Yes its 150 total for a night, we are willing to shell out abit more if its really value for it, but probably maximum would be 180.

Day 1 is fine for a shopping day. If she likes designer things, a trip down Fashion Ave might be a good addition. Even shopping at the boutiques in Soho can be nice for the ladies :p Both of these get expensive, keep in mind. I've never been to Woodsbury myself, but I know that people love it and there are some awesome deals.

Day 2 is solid. Times Square and Rockefeller Center are both more fun at night. The lights are a big part of Times Square and you won't get the full effect if you aren't there when they are in full view. Same with Rockefeller Center.

Madison Square Garden is nice to see, but there isn't as much as you think since it's mostly a ticketed event kind of place. You can get lost in Grand Central if you don't know where you're going, so it's awesome to walk around there for awhile.

If you have some time left over in the day, which you should, check out a park. Central Park and Madison Square Park are both nice places to relax if you're into that.

Day 3 should be good too. The ferry ride is 30m both ways, so account for that. Staten Island is awful for tourism. You don't even have to leave the terminal honestly, just hop back on the next boat. Not sure how much is open to Ground Zero right now. You'll be able to see the site and where the new towers are being built. There are no tickets being sold on site for the new memorial yet, though.

Let me know where you're staying and I'll help you with travel and directions.

Thanks man! I'll tried to finalise and book my accoms by the coming weekend :) so looking forward to visiting the big apple!

Yea we did thought of Soho, but our wallets had been dealt with 'maximum damage' from our travelling to London and Paris prior to our exchange and to Orlando and Miami during the spring break! Heh

Depending on your interests, the Natural history Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other museums are great places to stop. Also of note, the yearly NY auto show is in town this week at the Javits Center, so you might want to check that out too

My apartment is directly across the street from the Pan American hotel. The red neon sign keeps me awake at hours like this.

I'll take note of the museum, for the auto show, will it still be around during the time I'll be there? from 28th to 30th april. Thanks!

Hmm? So are you saying not to get an apartment near there?
