I was just going to ask that question. What concentration is advised?

I was wondering about the enamel too.

You should be less worried about the concentration of the bottle of H2O2 than the concentration in most of the whitening products you can buy, IMO

Most household hydrogen peroxide you can get in the store is going to be 3% (in the US, UK people are not able to get it I think?). So you're not going to be risking any more damage to your teeth or gums than you would be by using these products. Yes, your teeth will be sensitive after you have used it for a few days, but that is a common side effect of any hydrogen-peroxide based teeth whitening product methinks.

The European Commission says up to 6% should be safe:

http://ec.europa.eu/.../sccp_o_022.pdf

In response to the questions asked, the SCCP is of the opinion that:

  • The use of tooth whitening products up to 0.1% hydrogen peroxide is safe.

  • The proper use of tooth whitening products containing > 0.1 to 6.0 % hydrogen peroxide (or equivalent for hydrogen peroxide releasing substances) is considered safe after consultation with and approval of the consumer's dentist.

  • The use of tooth whitening products is not recommended prior to or immediately after dental restoration.
  • Particular care should be taken in using tooth whitening products by persons with gingivitis and other periodontal diseases or defective restorations. Conditions such as pre-existing oral tissue injury or concurrent use of tobacco and/or alcohol may exacerbate the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide (see e.g. section 3.3.13.1).

You're so smart ^_^ I will just use two doses of 3% at the same time to make it 6%. It'll still be in the safe range

That's how concentrations work, right? *innocent eyes*

but seriously, thanks :D

You can get it here too in pharmacies, I think it's also 3%.

I actually had the same concerns you did... I drink a ton of coffee and hot tea all day long and am a smoker so I had grown accustomed to the stains.... I actually got a new toothbrush recently and it has whitened my teeth significantly over the past month with the use of whitening toothpaste. It's the Phillips Sonicare Diamond Clean Toothbrush and reaches over 34,000 strokes per minute. http://www.amazon.co...35039206&sr=8-1 (Great sale on it right now on Amazon apparently as I paid just under retail for it... <_<)

H2O2 does do a really good job with whitening as well, but I personally find it irritating and a pain in the ass to apply on any kind of regular basis.... Brushing my teeth is a very simple process that I'm already used to doing.... I have always just used a manual brush until I bought this one and my teeth FEEL significantly cleaner after using it every time. :S

EDIT: Just saw you said about a hundred bucks budget... never mind. I only saw the significantly under 3k tag when I made my suggestion.... *shrugs*

I use Crest Professional Strength strips. They work, expensive and only available online though.

I highly recommend Luster, you can get it at WalMart. (It's in a red box and comes with a light you hold to your teeth. Believe it's about $35)
It works wonders in my experience. You can usually see an immediate difference if you use it 2-4 times in a row.

I also recommend the teeth whitening kits sold at tanning beds. They usually come with a paste and a mouth piece (to hold your lips open) and I've always had a great experience with them
I never experienced sensitivity with either of those, only with strips.

I'm personally not a fan of any white strips, I've seen far less results with those and they rarely stay on my teeth...
The only strips I would recommend are the Equate (walmart brand) ones because they are thicker strips that can be molded onto your teeth and will stay even while drinking liquids.

I have used the Crest white strips in the past. These stayed on for 30 minutes, I believe. Don't buy the dissolving kind. They are NASTY and don't work as well.

Hmm hmm hmm I use whitening toothpaste, but I never really notice a difference, probably because I'm a heavy smoker. But the whitening is supposed to be gradual and you don't really notice gradual changes with yourself.

I may end up trying some strips or some shit. WHO KNOWS.

CREST WHITESTRIPS... seriously
People comment on how white my teeth are ALL the time, including my dentist. All from like a $30 dollar box of crest white strips + regular brushing!

I'm using Colgate Optic White right now and I'm a heavy coffee drinker. My teeth don't appear discolored to me, and I haven't whitened with strips in a long time. I have used them in the past, but it has been a while.

The crest whitening strips work pretty well as long as you don't smoke like a train or drink ten cups of coffee a day. I used them like three or four times and was pretty pleased

Here is how I keep my teeth nice and white;

morning, brush with tooth whitening paste and then use tooth whitening mouth wash.

lunch, same thing as above.

dinner/before bed brush with a sensitive teeth toothpaste, whitening products weaken your teeth so you'll need this.

So yeah I haven't been to the doctors or dentist in over a year. My teeth aren't as good as they once were, still fine, just not white. Honestly, the longer I wait, the more I just don't want to go to either. I feel like the dad in 'The Middle'. Last I checked, I had minor gingivitis, so I guess I'm a no go on these products.

I have a thing for girls with really white teeth, so I naturally want whiter teeth myself. I love the color they are already, but I wouldn't mind having the a tad brighter

Crest white strips work really well, never seemed to do anything to my enamel either :). I used them for a few weeks when I was 16 and then this year. The whitening isn't shocking, but definitely noticeable.
