That's probably because you're not a heavy internet user

just out of curiousity, I did mine twice, and two different results It's wireless though, I don't know how much of a difference that would make though, if any..

To be fair, I remember starting of on dial-up with 56k so that fact that we've progressed that people in the sticks are getting 1mb+ is nothing short of amazing.
Fun fact: If it wasn't for telecom giants bitching about how much it cost to lay the cable down (Which was actually paid by the FCC/CRTC) and greatly exaggerating the costs of how much it cost, everyone would be at 100 Mb/s at *least* by now, and others would probably be reaching up to 1 Gb/s.

I'm a very heavy internet user. I just don't download movies and music anymore. But other than that, I'm constantly on it.

Those words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.
In perspective, an average webpage is about ~20 kb. An average movie is about 700 mb. You'd have to load 29,866.7 different websites before you'd even come close to that.
Given that a moderate internet user downloads around 1-3 movies a month, you're looking at a potential 2100 mb, so that's the equivalent of 90,000 different websites. And that's just for a moderate internet user.

I have a good reason for no longer downloading movies and music anymore. I'm one of the ones who actually got caught. So ... it's not worth it.
I'm not going to argue whether or not I'm a heavy internet user with someone. It truly doesn't matter.

How did you get caught?
I received two emails from my ISP about copyright infringement.

Did they actually follow up on it? Where'd you get the torrent? Did you have encryption enabled?

They did nothing else after the emails. I stopped all seeds and stopped downloading. I used demonoid.
And did you go for the big torrents or the smaller ones? Primarily seeded or leeched? Sorry, I'm just curious because I've never met anyone who actually got caught.

I always just downloaded the ones towards the top of the search results. Ones that had good reviews. I didn't download anything super big and fancy because I was impatient and just wanted a watchable copy. They had timestamps, IPs, and everything. The file name "The Thing 2011 720p BRRip x264 vice" too. Soooo. . . I'm paranoid now and I'm not chancing getting into further trouble. And did you go for the big torrents or the smaller ones? Wow. That's pretty shocking. I've downloaded a lot and so far I haven't been hit. Guess its time to be more careful.

I wonder if it's just because you picked smaller torrents with less people to go after. I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to try and get a court to track down 30k+ people.

I don't know... when I downloaded The Thing it hadn't been out for very long. I'm sure it was being seeded by a lot of people. But that was months ago, so now I can't remember.I wonder if it's just because you picked smaller torrents with less people to go after.
