Looking for recommendations on foreign films. Recently burned through the following for the past couple of nights:

Spirited Away
Amelie
The Man from Nowhere
A Prophet

Share some of your favourites and interesting films you've seen please. :)

Der Untergang (if you're interested in war films). It's about the occupation of Berlin and the last days of Hitler in the Fuhrerbunker.

Pan's Labyrinth is awesome~
Yojimbo
13 Assassins
Aeon Flux isn't foreign but I read the comics as a kid and the chick with hands for feet creeps me out

If you liked Ghibli stuff but run out of films:
Metropolis (
Osamu Tezuka)
Paprika (Satoshi Kon) - it's about as fucked up as Akira sometimes

Akira (Katsuhiro Otomo)
The Secret of Kells (not japanese but kind of the same feel as Miyazaki)

And everything by Ghibli Studios ever.

And definitely this

Oh, and for Chinese horror (no one does it better), watch everything that's ever been shittily westernised: the grudge, the ring, the eye. All superb.

Downfall in English. A brilliant film that I would recommend to anyone.

Also, on the topic of war films, is Stalingrad. A brilliant and horrifyingly depressing film.

Gave them all a place on my watch list.

Sounds great

Metropolis and Paprika are the only ones I haven't checked out, so I'll get right on that. And I thought Aeon Flux was terrible :/

and a few things from Makoto Shinkai

Been there, done that. His films are beyond godlike! 5cm/sec is in my top 10.

Most definitely. Ringu (or was it ringo?) scared the shit out of me when I first saw it.

Oldboy, can I get an amen?

Ip Man - chinese martial arts

The Raid: Redemption - indonesian action

How sad is it that I learnt of Oldboy through IMDB's top 250 listing? And TRR just might be my first indonesian flick.

---

Will check out the others as well.

tldr version: Thanks guise, i'll be good to go for the next week or so. I hope these films are easy to 'acquire' <_<
