They must be lacquered in some way.  I guess if you don't have fingernail polish you can improvise.

I have some blue car paint and some clear coat in the garage..... HEH. (probably have to go see my sister for the blue coloured nail polish, she's weird like that).

Ugh, blue? I was going to paint mine highlighter yellow tomorrow. Plus I broke a nail today and it's all ugly and stubby. 

 

At least I won't have to leave the house for this round.
