They can delete the site at any time without notice.

Even so, saying the site is in no danger of closing, then suddenly closing it with no prior notice makes not only the CEO look like a liar, but also puts any brands he or she is managing at risk. Word of mouth travels fast and nothing is truly "erased" on the internet. Jumpstart would lose a lot of business and potential future customers for their other projects if people got wind of such things happening. And let me tell you, Neopets players are LOUD.

It is in JS's best interest to keep the site running if they say it's going to keep running. Even with the layoffs they are actively working to repair issues around the site, and if they were planning on closing things down, it would be a waste of time, resources, and brand integrity to do so.

Why would jumpstart buy/acquire another company when they're about to go out of business? It does't make much sense. The only thing I can think of is that they think they can brand the characters and stuff and sell them, with things like plushies and such. I doubt anything that's neo related will sell as well as they think. Face it, the user base has shrunk considerably since selling real life neo items was profitable.

Maybe for the mailing list?

I don't think they're closing it. Sure, the site is glitchy, but that doesn't mean they're going to take it down, or it's going to die. They just fired a bunch of people, so there's less people working on the site now. Plus, jumpstart is a smaller company that viacom was. Viacom owns Nickleloden, along with a bunch of other large TV networks (like MTV),  so they had more resources at hand than jumpstart probablly does. With less resources, it'll take jumpstart more time to fix things.

I honestly don't think the CEO would say the site isn't closing, just to close it down. What's the point of telling users the site will stay open, if you're just going to close it?

So they don't panic and stop buying nc and premium. Meteor did the same thing, and they knew very well that they were going to close, when they said they were staying.

I understand what you're saying...but I just don't get how the site can keep running the way it is and still possibly be profitable enough to keep up. It boggles my mind.

If the site is so bad that it's taken more than 6 months to fix, wouldn't it be an overall cheaper and quicker fix to do a complete overhaul instead of trying to fix it? The site's design and coding are 7+ years old. Sure, it's what we all know and love, but it's so outdated it's not even funny anymore. The money now is in Facebook apps and App Store games for mobile. Naturally, from a business standpoint, wouldn't it be wise to fully evolve into those areas and shy away from the presumably far less profitable web-based genre? I just don't get it.

Nice talking with you though, it really made me think about everything. Thank you. :)

I still hope that they're making a completely new Neopets. I'm tired of how it is...

Another example would be GaiaOnline and their closure of zOMG, their popular MMO. They took it down for maintenence with the promise of it coming back and then suddenly closed it permanently with the BS excuse of there being a "fatal exploit that could enable malicious users to compromise accounts" (...after 7 years of the game being live with no issue). Companies will do anything to make - or save - a buck. Sometimes even if it sours their reputation. They take a risk by shitting over their current users and hoping for a fresh userbase to become interested.

Is this why the Neopian Times hasn't been updated in over a month now?

And what on earth is going to happen with KeyQuest? When will we get this back? TNT said that it would be down for "a week or so" after the transition. It's now been 6 fucking months. Seriously?!

It won't be long before Neopets has virtually no users (apart from the very loyal ones anyway).

I predict a Neopets shutdown in the medium-long term future.

Still haven't heard anything in relation to the bringing back of Key Quest - this was 6 months ago!

Still haven't heard anything about The Neopian Times/Editorials - this was stopped 2 months ago!

These are 2 important site features that require bringing back up.

What are TNT doing? Creating NC items and advertising the purchase of NC to buy these items. Money grabbing tossers! They should get their priorities straight!

Technically NC is the best revenue bringer so they do have priorities straight.

But what about the users who actually care about being able to use the site as it was intended for, with all of the main features working?! There are adverts on the site and not everyone uses ad blockers. Hence, more visitors means more revenue.  And I'm sure that there are many people who have left due to this shambles of a website not being updated enough and not having the main key features of the site working.

An example: TNT said before the transition that they would take Key Quest down for about a week. It is now April 25th, and the site was taken down mid-september 2014. If my maths is correct, that's 7 months. NOT 1 WEEK. Unacceptable.

The main part of the NT should still be updated because it's all mostly user generated content, but editorials kinda need staff that can answer questions and, well, care enough to do so.

Quite frankly, a lot of players left Neo after their ability to earn free NP via habitarium and KQ was crippled. Not everyone is a master restocker/reseller and/or a master ab'er  :lol2: and they tend to stick because of those fancy customizations and games.

All my scores that have been reviewed, since the downsize, have been approved. I wonder if that's just a coincidence?

Well, all they really kept was the developers and some of the moderators. Maybe the people who check scores aren't there anymore, or maybe they just can't be bothered to check them anymore. The review system is automated, as it's based on a specific score that if you go higher than, you get reviewed. All people would need to do would be to check it to see if it was within a good time, and it's not a score that's impossible to get within the game. Like getting over 300 in fashion fever.

I'm just sticking because I have been with Neo for ages. I'm also hoping that the site features get fixed one day.

If they don't, I'll (one day) run out of patience, and find somewhere else.

I don't often do the restocking thing, and I certainly don't use abrosia. How I kept my head above water was thanks to the stock market giving some good results. If it wasn't for that, I'd be out of NP.

And now there's a bug with the stock market.
