So in my guild (yes, I still frequent a guild! and it's active!) there has lately been the discussion about all this lag, and glitches, and economy, in short: the current problems Neopets is facing. And someone has mentioned that it was mainly the cheaters' fault.
Somehow the cheater's topic always comes back there. Maybe they know and are giving me hints
Anyway, I'll briefly describe what was the popular opinion.
Why? The reasons for this aren't recent as we may think, but they go many years back in the past.
Due to the influence of cheaters, CGers and other 'hackers', a lot of normal and average people have lost their interest in gaining Neopoints, thus staying mostly for the company of others or just abandoning the site. Also events like the Altador Cup have been frustrating, because the presence of organized groups have made it impossible to win "normally", thus spoiling the fun for everyone. You probybly have heard about all the complaints during the AC.
Anyway, of course people are abandoning the site and buying less NC and premium, so Viacom decides to sell, and Jumpstart buys, hoping to bring Neopets back to life. (And, who knows, maybe this will happen.)
Sadly, right now, due to the lag and other problems, neopets is losing even more users and not gaining new ones, so the only users remaining are the nostalgic ones who will stay with the site till the end. And Comcast isn't really able to manage all these problems, who may even be caused by the cheaters themselves, who aren't worried about the long term effects of their actions (I lol'd at this point) and only interesed in exploiting the glitches.
So Comcast isn't even trying and the site will go down soon (see the fired TNT staff).
Of course this is a somehow biased opinion, but it's true that the popularity of Neopets has been going down.
So, what do you think: who or what is responsible for the sinking popularity of Neopets?
