This is a guide for navigating Slack via desktop and mobile! Once you've requested an email to sign up for Slack, you can use this to navigate the chat site.

Customizing Profile
This is for customizing your avatar, name and other profile aspects.

You'll need to click the 'account settings' button.
Then from there, you can navigate towards editing all aspects of your account.
Settings
The settings tab allows you to edit your password, authentication for logging in, username, email and timezone. You can also use this page to deactivate your account if you want. But you don't want that.
Notifications
The notifcations tab allows you to edit how your phone or desktop notifies you about unread chat messages.
Initially, when you create your account it will be using the default notifcation settings. If you click to use the recommended settings, you have more options to customize how you're notified.

There are lot of great options to mess with. You have the abilitiy to customize the sounds and whether you get notifcations for anything, or if you get @tagged, or nothing at all.
In addition, you can quick edit your notifications in the chatroom.
Click the little bell in the left hand corner to edit it.
Profile
Editing your profile includes your avatar, display name, phone number, skype and what you do!
So, click the 'edit' button to change your profile.
If you're dumb like me, it may not be intuitive that you can click the picture on the edit screen to change your avatar.
Customizing Theme
Wanna spruce up the default Slack theme? This is the way to do it!

In the chatroom, in the left corner, you can see this
Now click the 'Neocodex' to open a dropdown.
Click preferences to open this page.
Here you can pick a custom theme, or create your own! (I will add more later.)
Adding Custom Emoticons
Want to add a custom emoticon/emoji?
Note: this only works on desktop and there are two ways to do this.

First way:
Go to the home page (pictured above).
On the left side, you can see a navigation.
Click 'customize'.
You'll be brought here:
If you want to add a custom emoji, you'll need to type the name. Note, you just have to type what you want it to be called. So, for example, I added the 'banned' emoji. I just typed banned.
Now to use the emoji in chat, you type : banned : (without the spaces).
Don't forget to hit this button to save it!
Second way:
If you're in the actual chat room (pictured in the spoiler)

You can see at the bottom on the chat bar, in the right side, there is a little smilie. Click the smilie.
You'll get this menu pop-up.
Now click the

Notifications / Channel Settings

If you want to quickly edit your notifications in the chat room, for desktop, you can click the little bell. This works for any channel you're in.
Note: if you want to edit a specific channel, you need to be in that channel, so to do that, click the channel (#channelname on the left hand side) and then hit the bell.
If you click 'settings for #general' (as pictured above), you can open a full menu.
