I have a pet perfectly as I want it, however the stats are pretty low, do any of you zap your pets that are already the way you want them to look? What  are your suggestions?

Don't do it. You'll end up with the Lab zapping it to a different colour/specie. Besides it's too irregular to train. It will make stats very uneven. It's better if you just pay for the training.
