Would you say the lab is worth it?
Yes, if you want a good BD pet for plots.
Only downsides are the very low defence and levels,
which means you can't train at the same time.
I just use neggs when I need a certain stat to increase quickly.

My pets gained two levels, changed gender, gained 2 movement points, nothing happened and one lost some HP
