Anyway, I take Tae Kwon Do with the ATA (American Tae Kwon Do Association) which is as close to real tae kwon do as anyone in the West is going to get. I really want to do kendo or perhaps judo, but TKD is fun Its a really good starter martial art, they take you from weakling to a somewhat flexible/strong/powerful(any adjective will fit) person in a relatively short time. I've been in about 5 years and its payed off in a few fights.
TKD specializes in kicks. Seeing on of our masters (there are sooo many of them) do a butterfly kick is incredible.
Start out in TKD and move to something like judo or ju jitsu.

Judo is crazy Kim, all about submissions. Very useful in defending yourself.

Ive been at tae kwon do 2 years and I KNOW it wont help me on the streets.
If someones coming running at you and going to throw a punch, your martial arts seriously wont help.
Taekwondo for me is mostly tournaments where you try to increase your quickness with your feet and aim for the other person's targets ont he chest with your feet for points(anyone whos done taekwondo should understand what I'm saying, (sparring)).
Just learn how to street fight, itll help you a lot more than a martial art can.
Only if youre really a master that youll learn to use this on the streets.
