Yesterday I got some nunchaku/nunchucks. :D I've always wanted some... Anyway, I've been messing around with them but I'm not very good (understandable considering I only got them yesterday I suppose). I'm glad I got the practice ones, I've already cracked myself across the jaw with them...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with them?

Look, piccies! I should have put my karate suit on, it would have looked much better:

Pic 1 - underarm pass
Pic 2 - doing a figure of 8 pattern, except you can't really tell from this pic!
Pic 3 - a block
Pic 4 - figure of 8 pattern once more, except again you can't really tell :p

:D I've only really started to get interested in the weapons, I'm trying to find somewhere I can train with them... hence I'm just self-training with these nunchaku at the moment.

Which is probably why I would by now have broken a few bones had they been the wooden ones.

Mmm. Patrick has lots of experience with Sahn Jeol Bahg. Basically the samething. They don't like the word nunchucks in my dojo...

A few weeks ago, I did a doulle SJB form (using two SJBs) and passed with flying colors. Hurt to high heaven the next day though...

sooo true

Well my dad can use it pretty good, he hasn't been taught but he can do fancy stuff. My two uncles can do better, they both actually learnt martial arts, both learnt different styles, and they used to spar when younger. Well yeah you could say my uncles and dad can use them :)

Oh and yes I have nunchucks too, spongy soft ones for training and big wooden ones..

Aww, that would rock!

And yeh, I've hit myself in the face with these foam ones... all part of the fun. I'd hate to do it with the wooden ones though. :p

Ack, thats the bit that isn't fun. We had discipline with wooden SJBs... not fun. Hitting every part of your body with wooden sticks isn't fun... Looks sweet when you show off though

In karate? I'm black, 1st dan.

Doesn't mean I can control these 'chucks yet though!

And I'm still trying to improve flexibility and so on...

Actually, in our school, students aren't allowed to touch weapons until they've become a black belt. Usually takes them 3-5 years, so they don't worry about people cruising through it to get to swing a sword or whatever. :)

Ahh, I see. Well this weapons training is a little personal thing, we wouldn't normally do it at my school (the location of it is actually at my school school meaning the headteacher probably wouldn't approve). Though I might be able to learn a bit more about weapons in my other class that I go to...

Yep.. it's taken me 6 years to get to black belt. :p When I started there were about 20 other people who started with me... now it's down to three. And those other two aren't exactly enthusiastic about it.

That is amazing Emily. I wish I knew something or the other of self-defence besides learning how to press the little top on the "Pepper-Spray-Can". :p . I've always wanted Nunchucks, though past expirences with my cousins have left me scared of doing anything with large metal bars attacthed by a chain. It's painful when making a mistake, though it is an ingenious shock treatment process, make a mistake and you will be hurt, therfore you do not make mistakes. ^_^ .

For now I think I'll keep the the prefrence of chopstiks strung together - this way I have less of  risk of hurting my self.

PostScript: Emily, you are so well rounded; you do martial arts, your amazing at art, hell, I envy you even more now :p .
