when I get neomails complimenting my pet or begging me to join their guild it makes me feel good. I usually take the time to write them back just a brief message to show them that their efforts werent completely wasted.

Don't be jerks. Some people like to take the time to be nice and thoughtful to someone. Not everyone wants to spend all their time making neopoints.
