You know how windows xp has that search your whole computer right? Well, That works by looking through another copy of your C drive rather then directly looking at your computer. Now here is the solution that will let you open your files someti'mes up to 2x faster.
Alright,
1.Click on control panel.
2.Click on administrative tools.
3.Click on Services
4.Scroll down until you see indexing service
5.Click on indexing service
6.Click on startup type, And set to disable
7.Click okay, Close everything and open My Documents or something. You will notice that it opens way faster then usual.
Tell me your experiences.

Nope. It just searched your computer instead of the backup drive.Only catch is that it makes your comp open files quicker.

Calm down...

If you make more room on your hard drive, the whole OS runs faster because of virtual memory.
So if you clean out the junk, (ie. "...throw out all the crap your sis and bro made."), it will run faster.

I've only got a 40 GB harddrive... :) I'm going to get a 120 GB soon, though. I'll mod a case for my 40 and use it to take files places and stuff.

I can tell it works, nice work, but it barely makes a difference on my comp but if I think about it...in like 10 years, I could have saved a day of my life not waiting that extra .1 of a second every ti'me :)

another way to turn off the ndex is to right click your hard drive andunlick the index option as well. indexing slows down openign files other then that. that is it
