If I respect an artist, I download their songs, then buy their CD.
If it's someone like Paris Hilton, I pirate that shit.

Pirating has made me buy more music than i otherwise would have by exposing me to an artist, then making me want to buy it.

I only buy PS2 games. Some DVD's (if I REALLY enjoyed them) and anything Final Fantasy. Never bought PC software in my life. Never will.

I'm not going to lie though, I've pirated my good share of software.. Photoshop, obviously.. Sibelius 3 (Music Notation), Morrowind ()
And far too much music. Though a majority of the music I download are band songs that you can't find ANYWHERE. I still have yet to find several, even on various P2P networks.
I pay for console games (Cause I don't want to go to the trouble of modding the console ), and I don't have to pay for CDs anymore. The library I work at buys pretty much any CD I request, so I just check it out and rip the music and give it back.

The intellectual property of a book? Of music? Of games? These are all made with money. You can hate the idea of information ownership, but it's a very real and very understandable law.I pirate just because you can't "own" information. I hate the very idea, therefore I pirate like there is no tomorrow and I condone it 100%.
Were information not protected, any creative works could be stolen and sold without any compensation or credit. Anyone who puts energy and work into their product will have another man receive credit. Information can be owned.

I'm sure that he meant that we have only a licence to use the material. When he says own the work he means able to do whatever he wishes with it, in a strictly personal and noncommercial manner. For instance, because I have a licence to listen to the music on the CD, that does not technically allow me to rip the music onto my ipod (something the RIAA has stated in the past). What people want are farer policies. Why shouldn't I be able to make a backup of a CD for those just in case times. The music industry has expressed interests in making people pay licencing fees for every instance of the music you own. If I bought a CD and I put the music on my iPod, they want me to pay to have it on my iPod!
I'm not saying this is realistic on their part, but just the thought of how the Recording industry views the consumer is depressing.

If you download a show which isn't even available on DVD in your country, or that country, then it's OK to download it to get the full expirience someone is getting in Japan or china. On the flipside, if theres a legitamate release out on DVD, Blu Ray, or VHS, then I will buy the DVD, Blu Ray, or VHS, or use netflix to rent. I love netflix because it doesn't make me feel guilty, and I can try before I buy.

A little extreme don't you think?
If you made a program and I decided to steal it, take credit for it, sell it, and makes 1000s, wouldn't you be just a tad pissed off?
