Well apparantley there has been a rule in place in the New York City school system for tthe past decade or so. Its a rule that after a certain amount of time teaching a teacher is very hard to fire unless they do something terrible like killing someone.molesting someone or not doing anything in class what so ever(although i have seen many teachers come terribly close to that). I think this is the dumbest rule on this planet. The thing is that because of this idiot teachers who hate life and their job are teaching in the school system. Teachers who have no patience for students, teachers who just cant explain stuff well, teachers who are just plain bad at teaching. Every year i get at least one of these people and i think it is rediculous. I always do good in school no matter what teacher i get because i strive the distance to get a good grade no matter what. However, that doesn't make it right. Everyone is different and sometimes having one of these people makes kids just want to quit at a subject. Bright kids who aren't lazy, self-satisfied, or even stupid have had an unequal shot at doing well just because these people didn't teach them correctly so they actually had an understanding. Years i have been seeing this and i think something should be done. Well that was my rant. Has anyone seen this in other states or other countries? Am i wrong?

Never heard of this. sad.gif
But yeah, I have had all good teachers so far this year, and all of them are teaching me something new except my math teacher, but it's all good here. Sorry you have retarted teachers, sometimes mine are mean, but atleast they give me the opportunity to get what I want and need. A good education.

You are absolutely correct.

In my school system, I have a teacher who is A FOOL.

Can't even get some authors straight.
Ridiculous.
I can guarantee you that the class is smarter than him...

Get's authors wrong, impatient when we correct him, gets pissed...
(I'm lucky I got this year over with...)

(Okay, I exxagerated a bit, but still, that's what he's like...)

Let me tell you about a couple instances where retarded teachers come in as well...

I've read on reader's digest once about teachers who did something bad and it took them EIGHT MONTHS to fire them. They had salary for the eight months as well. (You should see the tests they give you to qualify you as a teacher...)

(Happened in New Jersey)

My friend also has a teacher like what you're talking about. My friend's teacher wasn't that smart. She would occasionally get authors wrong etc. etc. My friend decided to correct her and now they hate each other. dry.gif We share report cards, and though he is a straight A student, he got a B+ dry.gif

He told me he had to call the teacher and principal 3 times to confirm this, and they told him they supposedely "made a mistake"...

The thing that makes me extremely mad is that when you obviously smarter than that teacher, the incompetent teacher won't accept it, and they will try to make you look like a fool.

Edit: I'm editing this a lot huh...

Not all are bad. But every year i get 1 or 2. Its just that sometimes they bring down your average. They don't do anything stupid per say. The main problems with bad teachers who are still in the job is either they hate their job causing them to be unreasonable with testing and impatient with the students or the other instance is that they just dont know how to teach whether because they dont do it in a way kids can understand or they are lazy and dont care about the students and maybe at one time taught well but now maybe just fed up.

Yup, there are always those one or two teachers that spoil the pool of awesome teachers. I personally don't have a problem with them, because I learn on my own if they can't teach. The ones that bring down your GPA for no reason really suck, though. I don't understand why they do it. ~_~

About the American school system - I think the only reason that the "rule" exists is that we have a slight shortage of teachers. I really think that teachers deserve a much higher paycheck than they do now, since their job is so important. I mean, damn. What the hell would most of us be doing without teachers? Yes, there are other jobs that are as important as, or more important, like police officers, truck drivers (yes, truck drivers), and so on, but teachers really deserve extra recognition.

For some strange reason at my school, all of the good teachers go and get administrator jobs while they leave us with the average teachers.

It's called tenure. Some of my school teachers are retarded yet my school's administration is so dumb, they keep the teachers in place. the only way a teacher would get fired is if he almost blew up the chem lab, like one teacher did once.

At my school we've got a teacher conning the system. As far as i've heard they are black mailing the system by being given free time off for a fake accident or something like that.
This teacher only ever works at our skool about a week or two a year (just because they feel they should or something). Real enthusistic about teaching............. Oh well, they're a pretty bad teacher anyway. I wonder wats going to happen.

yea thats the dumbdest rule.. dry.gif
especially that I live in NY and my highschool math teacher was horrible.. who I had for 2 semesters dry.gif only like 30% of her students pased the class... she was horrible.. she made fun of everyone.. someone who is quit for a long time then answers a question of hers she is like "o insertnamehere from the peanut gallery" dry.gif (<= wasnt applied to me tongue.gif)

Anyway I hated her so much, she hated me also, we had to bring all the curces thing with the pointy edges to make a circle? anyway she was like "stand up whoever has one, so I know who to mark unprepared" I stood up with that thing in my hand like everyone else's she is like "Ilya dont kill yourself" and laughing dry.gif

When I went and changed her class for someone else's class I had to bring a slip to her for her to sign, she is like "o ilya your leaving? I fell so bad for you, you poor little boy, you going to miss me?" <= with a laughing tone she said.. I was like "FINALLY!!!!!! WOOHOO finally i get to get out of this dumbass class" told her right in front of her face and started jumping up and down lol she was hald angry half like blink.gif

I hate that rule... we need like 100 students to sign a petition for her to get fired.. but if 1 of her students sign it she will fail them... dry.gif
