Im not sure if this is the section to post it, but it is neo-related in some way smile.gif

My ISP person said I have a dynamic IP but my IP dont even change at all. I asked to have it changed and he said it will cost me an extra $30 a month (to change to a static ip). I went to IP testing sites like cmyip.com, whatismyip.com and showmyip.com. The first two sites showed that Im using proxy and each time I disconnect that ip changes. The last site showed my 'real' ip and never changes. So Im a bit confused about this, am I static or dynamic ip?

I have no idea what it is, because I get frozen everynight from neo lol. IF i have a dynamic ip, WHY am I getting frozen everynight? I dont use any cheat programs and am totally legit. I have cheated before and i believe i also got ip banned. If i have a dynamic ip, do they someitmes give you the same ip once in a while? If they do, i'll get ip banned right?
It must be some kind of ip ban but I need to know which one i have, dynamic or static

I *think* i have dynamic ip but most sites I go to it shows the SAME ip everytime, can someone explain this please?

Can somebody go to showmyip.com and scroll down till you see 'Proxy IP Address:'
What does this mean? Thats the IP i always see and it never get changed. Is that the ip neo reads?
At the top of the page of showmyip.com, the ip changes everytime i reconnect.

So yeah, Im looking for someone to answer my questions, it would be really appreciated

I don't think you should be charged with $30 per month just to change your IP.. blink.gif

Do you use dialup, or cable? If you use dialup, your IP always changes, and if you use cable, it doesn't.

The customer service rep assumed he wanted it changed to static...this limits the ISP to not being able to use DHCP and therefore limits their address pool.

FYI, Neo could easily be range banning you since you've got a dynamic address and are still getting banned.

Ip addressing is usually done dynamically via DHCP in order to minimize the necessary amount of ip addresses. For instance, say your ISP has the range 192.168.101.1 to 192.168.101.255.

192.168.101.1 is almost always reserved for routers and 192.168.101.255 is usually used for other things too. So, your ISP has 253 or 254 addresses available. By running a DHCP server, ip's are only given when people are actively connected...this means that if there there can be hundreds of people in this range so long as no more than 254 are connected at once. If this were done with static addressing...your ISP could only give out 254 addresses to 254 customers. DHCP allows for much more scaleable addressing, not to mention how much easier it makes computing. Assuming your dhcp lease (the amount of time you are given a certain address via dhcp) is about 4 hours or so, you will always be moving between 192.168.101.2 and 192.168.101.254. Obviously companies like Neopets who really want to ip ban someone have to ban an entire range, making the assumption that the odds of someone else being in the range isn't a player...not that they'd likely care anyways. Static addressing so so rarely used nowadays, that almost everyone is DHCP. Also, depending on your network, your external address will be exactly the same as everyone else on your network who has a DHCP lease...this really gets shitty and sloppy...I can pretty much assure you that you're the subject of a range ban, no real way to get around it short of sloppy proxying.. Sorry mate!

Thanks Cript that was very informative. I heard you can get a different range of IP addresses by reformating the computer, is that true?

Nope, it wouldn't have anything to do with your computer at all. In fact, if a friend brought a laptop in and plugged your modem into it, he would get an ip in your range.

My ISP has a strange setup for their dynamic IP range. tongue.gif All four numbers in my IP address periodically change (the last two usually change every now and then, but all four sometimes change maybe once a month).

They must have multiple ranges reserved or something. tongue.gif

My last 2 numbers change once in a while, but when I unplug and reset my modem the last 4 numbers change.
