Can you embed video from sites like YouTube on Codex? Ive seen a few forums allowing this and I thought it might be a cool idea since a lot of videos get posted.

I dont think the reply system of codex allow you to use HTML code.

PROOF:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.c...></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.c.../v/hYYJYLZe8DQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

That would be pretty useful actually. So long as we're not having to compromise our site security, I'm all for it.

It could easily be added using BBCode, not sure how we could moderate the content though...

How often do people post about porn or underage material anyway? Rarely and when it does you got a whole team of mods to sort it out, so moderation isn't really a key priority. smile.gif

I'm all for this, seems to me you could add a new section for videos and stuff because this site is crammed full of youtube videos, and when it's in that new section and the topic title says "OMG COME LOOK", I'll realise it's some stupid video of rap about chicken noodle soup instead of thinking it's something intresting in general chat.

So if this was avaliable to do, would you guys make a new forum for it?

No I dont think there would be a seperate forum for this itself.

A staff discussion topic has been created for this issue smile.gif.

Ditto!! Mods have enough problem to deal with spam and warn people. Now they have to check if the content of the flash video approriate or not which will consume more time and effort.

Sorry for the grave dig (I forgot about this topic tongue.gif ) I don't personally think there will be a problem with content. YouTube does a fairly good job on removing inappropriate content. The members, well most, are mature enough to handle this. If not members always can report the post to have a mod review the content. Keep me posted on this Hydro! wink.gif

I'm pretty sure staff came to a conclusion this that the risk isn't worth saving people one click.

flash is a big security risk. using the getURL() function you can create cookie grabbers, and not everyone here is ip secured.

Ok Gargar thanks for the info. smile.gif I never though too much about the security risks.
