yes, DBZ is fantastical. (and yes, the kids were able to go to SS1 fairly young, but at that point Vegeta could already go SS... he was just pissed that they could and they were just kids!)
anyway, they've already been mentioned, but yeah, Case Closed is awesome, Cowboy Bebop is groovy. kinda surprised no one mentioned Ranma 1/2. i've read a few of the mangas and i've seen in some stores that they made it into a show (just never got around to watching). it's pretty cool though. it's about this dude who turns into a chick if he gets wet.
oh yeah, and like, if his grandpa gets wet he turns into a panda. x 2

DBZ takes it home, no contest. But, if exclude that, there are a tone of All-Star Animes like...
Naruto (I don't like it much but its got a huge fanbase)
Yu Yu Hakusho (It was major hit here in the Philippines)
Shaman King (If I'm not mistaken this is one of the major animes competing with DBZ and Naruto?)
Rave (It's not that popular but I like it cause of the sword stuff
