What was shown on TV was, as Michie said, the noose going around the neck.
What happened next, however, was not shown. Children at that age still learn by copying, the power of objective reasoning doesn't develop until around 13-14.
I'm fairly sure that, had he seen Saddam actually die, there would have been no problem. Sure, he may have been upset... distraught even, but he would be alive.

I disagree. Every species is born with an absolutely amazing instinct to know what kills you. You don't see zebra babies playing with lions even though no one told them not to...As weird as it is...our dog is scared shitless anytime it sees me playing with a gun even though I've never fired it around her. A kid can kill themselves with a gun...yes, because a lot more creativity is required to know the purpose of a gun. A rope however, tied around your neck...this kid should know after age 2 that things tightly around his neck don't feel good.

The thing is, the kid saw it on TV, and assumed it was ok because of that. It's what he didn't see; the consequences, that killed him.

So if he saw people drinking tons of alcohol or taking pills to kill themselves, he'd do it just as long as he didn't see them fall over?

Irony is my favourite sort of humour.
Anyway, about the pills/alcohol thing; yes, I think it would. How often do you see a ten year old who knows that taking too many pills is bad? To most, pills are medicine, something that cures you, not kills you. That's precisely why all medicines come in kiddy-lock bottles.
Similar thing with alcohol. On TV, people drink -all- the time without seeing any negative consequences... so if a kid saw someone drinking what an adult would see as an unhealthy amount, it is unlikely a child would also make that connection.

Actually it really depends on how the parents brought the kids up. The ways of nurturing, the environment where he grows up, etc. Thats why some kids know responsibility is at ten, while others, prolly not even at 16 or 17. Kids are curious creatures. Dont you remember, when we are small we always try to get a feel of everything? One example would be fire. Only after they touch them or watch someone will get hurt after it would they know the consequences. Of course self- experiences is the best. Its one that will forever etched inside your mind, especially one that really hurts

But you can help those who don't understand this world. What about the mentally ill? People don't try to "fix" them but they are guided by their parents, teachers, and others.
That's really sad to hear. I'm sure the family is going through an emotional time.

Maybe he doesn't realize what he was doing after he had gone so far. Not every ten year old knows from right and wrong.

Wow Cript thats amazingly true. Its an amazing fact of genetic code. It has been happening since the dawn of time. All animals. ALL are afraid of fire even if they dont know what it is. It is an incredible instinct. Joe's point is equally as interesting as he could have been imitating it without seeing the actual execution. The point though is that he asked his grandfather why was saddam killed so he actually knew Saddam died...

I mean, I don't know there, but the kids here, at seven, already know what sex is, and a lot of those dirty words o.Ô
When I was seven the maximum I could speak was: "Idiot" for my sisters XD(obviously, wasn't idiot in english XD I translated, but to be in portuguese just put an a after T so is "idiota" XD*portuguese dumb classes*)
I know what ya mean. The other day I was into CD Plus and this little kid, no older than 8, was there with his mother. She asks him what he wants, and he blurts out: "I wanna CD of Slim Shady!" And the stupid b*tch bought it for him, despite the cover clearly having the WARNING: EXPLICIT LYRICS sign on it. I would NEVER give a kid that young an Eminem CD. I don't agree with the 18+ thing 100%, but 8? It saddens me.
The kid in the article probably was experimenting or something, cause yeah, young kids definately emulate what they see. I know I did when I was that young (mind you I did have sense enough to know what would cause death).
