What happend to people saying thank you....I help this lady down the stairs with her baby and shopping bags and the she walks off without saying thanks ....on my way home I opened the exit door for a lady at the store and like 10 people tried 2 walk through I slammed it in their faces. 2 weeks ago there is this guy and he drops his wallet getting up from a chair at this local breakfast shop. I could have easily waited for him to walk a bit farther and bought myself like a PS3, a gold chain, and a car (not sure how much money there was) but i gave it back to him and he says "Good lookin' out kid". How about "Thank you very much i appreciate it."

Discuss.

I'm highly embarrassed anytime someone opens a door for me so my thank-yous are almost inaudible but I generally get a "no problem" so I assume I'm heard. happy.gif However a few days ago I lost my wallet and was looking around everywhere on campus, calling security and stuff, but then I checked my mail saturday and someone had just put it in my mailbox - with all the cash still intact. I never got a note or anything which depresses me because I really would have given them all the cash in it - I was just afraid for my debit cards and IDs. It was an amazing thing for them to do and I wish I knew who it had been to find it. 1we8.gif

..People always say thanks to me. I cant remember the last time I did something where the guy or girl didnt turn around and thank me. xP
And Im more of a sorry person. I say sorry a lot I guess. tongue.gif
Plus Ill also steal one of jillians reasons for not being a thank you person. I get ultra embarassed when a stranger guy would open a door for me or pick up something I dropped or something. It happens all the time, I just get all awhed, smile and run away.

heh where I live it is an insult NOT to say thank you. Old women will slap you if you don't say it. Seriously. I drive people up the wall saying thanks to people cause that is my society. I do understand your point tho. When ever someone moves from different states to here, the people don't like to be polite.

Down here in my city in Florida, it is unheard of for someone not to thank you if you do something blink.gif Usually you end up wishing they would STOP thanking you because they are so appreciative tongue.gif It is like "Please, I only opened a door for you, you do not need to bear my children!"

I guess "thanks" is just a Southern thing now, hmm? Maybe it is something in the grits...

Wow Sw, I don't blame you for getting pissed. I would too, like wtf. You go out of your way to help them, and they don't even say anything. It's not that hard. Most people say thank you when I do something for them, except my parents, and if they don't say thanks I say your welcome anyway, because they get all flustered when I say it. xD Try that. biggrin.gif

^ Good chance for me to ask why. Honestly, that's a piss off. There's this girl that I don't know really well, that I would like to know, but she is damn shy. Its a shame. Like, she walked in front of me once when I was leaving class, but I just stop and say hey, how's it going... She gets flustered and says sorry. dry.gif I just walked off after that... Idk what else I could have done... o.o

And Urban, Idk what happened to you, but your different. You like brood now, it's weird. blink.gif

Lawl, my parents raised me to be pretty polite to people. I always hold doors open and stuff. And I always say thank you. Even if someone will think I'm lame I'll tell them if something means to a lot to me and how much I appreciate it. I can't stand ungrateful people who don't say thanks.. makes me sick.

It's where you live. Back in MD my sister's best friend's mom was from NYC and she was surprised so much because my sister said thank you when she gave her a ride home. People just don't do that in the big city, I guess :\

For everyone who says that they always get thanked. Come to New York City. All 5 boroughs have their share of the rude especially if you own a business. Often times people on the train or in a restaurant wont give you the time of day(not literally) although many will but those are the general place where you will encounter the rude. It is a sad thing to see sometimes people are just so peoplephobic they do it just because they hate talking to people even if it is just to say thanks.

People are rather polite where I live.. although the youth will tend to be much more rude and stuff, not me really.. I don't like to treat people rudly because I don't like to be treated badly. But yeah, I totally understand what you're saying, and it pisses me off when something in that sort happens to me, but just move on and tell yourself you have a big penis.. maybe you don't, but it always makes a guy feel good... just saying.

Mmhm. In Chicago it just depends on where you are.

I always say thank you and most of the time when I do something nice for someone, they will say thank you.

Here, in Michigan, almost everyone says 'Thank you' for even the smallest things...the people that don't are usually really old or just mean.

Lawl, I dont know why I do it. Im not shy unless a boy does something gentlemen-y like to me. Then I get all different because even though it happens daily Iunno, I think its nice. They usually find it cute from what they say afterwards so w/e, I never attempted to change myself there. I either smile to show a thank you or just say a quick thank you and run away. o.o

And okay? You should keep trying to talk to her, I like persistant boys when they know Im embarassed. tongue.gif

it's totally different where I live. 1we8.gif

and here in japan, it's not a thankyou you hear all the time, but it's an apology. you'll hear "Sumimasen!!" like a billion times a day... everyone here is extremely polite, and the culture is very considerate of the other's feelings.

I know Chinese is different from Japanese, but when I go to the Chinese restaurant here, they ALWAYS say "I'm sorry" or "Sorry" when they come by to pick up dirty plates. I guess they're trying to excuse themselves in case they reach over us or something...

yes, in japanese, saying sorry is a lot like saying "OMG! I'm so sorry that I'm inconveniencing you!"
