how are women equal in islamic culture? for one, i know a Muslim man can marry whomever he likes so long as the woman doesn't stop him being a Muslim, but a Muslim woman has no such choice, she can only marry a Muslim man.

shit dude. that is pretty bad. i mean, *either* keep her in jail for 11 years, *or* stone her. don't do both, that is the part that i find unfair. sure their laws may be unnecessarily strict and backasswards, but that's a double penalty.

I gotta say, after living in japan for a year, I'm really starting to get sick and tired of different cultures not acknowledging equality between the sexes.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but that's really not true at all. The worst of women's rights abuses occur in Muslim and Arabic countries. In fact, a majority of Amnesty Internationals' womens rights chapter focuses on cases in Muslim and Arabic countries because its so common.
