I got some SS homework and I forgot to bring my text book home so would someone mind helping me out?

I got a list of events and I need to explain what happened and why it was significant to Canada. I can research the event but I need help coming up with the significance part:
1. Boer War
2. Naval Bill
3. National Policy
4. Alaska Boundry Dispute

Sorry, I'm retarded when it comes to this kind of thing. All I know is that the Boer War has something to do with the Dutch, and I can only guess on the others. tongue.gif

1. The Boer War was the first time Canada sent troops overseas for a war.
2. The Naval Service Bill of 1910 created the Royal Canadian Navy.
3. The National Policy created higher tariffs for imported goods, creating revenue for the Canadian government, and allowing Canadian-based industries to gain a higher profit.
4. Not sure completely, on this one, but Wikipedia states "Nevertheless, the Alaska settlement promoted better understanding between the U.S. and Britain that worked to Canada's advantage in World War I." so you should look into that a little more. smile.gif

Thanks alot biggrin.gif For the last one because after the dispute the US was viewed negatively it lead to the rejection of free-trade in the 1911 election. smile.gif
