HI everybody.I'm new here and have been using the stuff around the site and greatly appreciate all the works that other people do for people like me with their great programs. Anyways, I've been playing Neopets on an On-and-Off base. I was just wondering if any of you guys remember(if possible) about that huge duplication incident that was going on about 4 years ago after th Maraqua War plot. I just wanted to know what exactly happened and who were the ones that discovered that glitch. Any information is greatly appreciated.

The trick was discovered well before then but was keep from getting released too widely. I wasn't around for when the shit hit the fan but heard when I came back.

I was around when that happened but I didn't actually know what caused it. All i remember was that jellyneo said something about it and i got curious. I know of course it won't work now but since it was kept on the DL back then does that mean the first original few items that were duped could have passed under the radar?

my bad on date I'm dyslexic and read it backwards >.< happens more when I'm tired...just got off work. The dupe bug had to do with item gifting and trade post iirc. I have no idea what kinda item DB they had set up at the time.

None of the items from the last Dupe should be around. This started with one or two people, and then was released in a private area of one or two sites. Don't think it ever went public.

The trick was something in the database. It duplicated an item's unique ID code, which identified it as X item. The problem was, then there were two items that had the same 'unique' ID. Dupers got around this by selling the items for a massively reduced price in NP, devaluing a lot of items. But neopoints don't have unique IDs. They don't have IDs at all; they're just a number. So basically, the idea was, dupe a shitload of stuff, sell it all and keep the NP. Once the dupe was patched/fixed, you could spend your money on 'real' items.

There have actually been multiple dupes over the years. Can't remember all of them, but one of the so called dupes was legitimate. By that I mean that each item was created by the database with a unique ID, not duplicated. More like an item generator than a Dupe, but you had to have the original item to start the process. This was years ago, as I recall.

I accidentally got my very first account frozen with duping a sporkly syrup and a niptor.

I remember it happening through the trading post, so I dunno. Maybe the other guy did the dupe to me or something.

All dupe glitches were patched pretty quick weren't they? It seems like the one a year ago (Sock did it?) was patched within a few days.

Wasn't one of them done using an extension that Firefox has that allowed page source editing and your Safety Deposit box?

At least, that's what I remember from one of the incidents. Dunno if it was the one from four years ago or not.

Was that the duping of Theora's tear and all of that? That shit was crazy. One person actually stuck 99 of the item in their shop. -_-

I just remembers the dupers were ip banned pretty easily. As were a few alleged innocents that simply purchased these duped items. Either way, they got fucked over.

From what I remember though, it had to do with the safety deposit box. Say you had 10 code stones in your box, you move out .5 of one or something and it would essentially give you two.

I believe their were more than one of these duping events. The first one started like within the year neopets was made. That's as far as i can recall. And they started off incredibly simple lol.

I figured we where speaking of the same one, since I joined around four years ago, when the one I am talking bout happened.

If he was talking about one towards the beginning of neopets then it would have been a lot farther back then four years.

About 4 years ago, when the ghostkersword was in the ht, I figured out how to dupe using the sdb (it was a random way, but you just pressed enter a lot and put a lot of random numbers in to remove items--kind of hard to explain) and i ended up duping nearly 100 gswords. i gave a bunch out around the bdc to people that were rude or that i didn't like. i was obviously caught very soon and i still had 50 gswords i was going to give away when i was frozen. the way i got to that was i made 60k or so, duped as many lab maps as i could, sold, repeat, until i had the i think 14m to buy a gsword. then i got another one (you needed 2 to make it work) and then duped those. this was the second huge dupe incident (the one after newcastle).
(btw for anyone interested it took about 2 hours to dupe the 100 items. mainly because you could one dupe one at a time and half of the time it wouldnt work because of the way it was time sensitive. as well, theres a glitch on the site RIGHT NOW, still, that kind of uses the same technique that i found. it's for a big game/feature of the site, but the payout isn't that big (np wise), which is why i havent abused it too much. i used it and pwned the game last year and was frozen for using a 'bot' (wtf?) and thats only because it accidentally became very public that my score was impossible and a shitload of people reported me. the glitch still works. )
