Saw The Other Boleyn Girl, wanted to be a Tudor, just for the dresses.

I was talking to Eeyore on MSN the other day while watching Once Upon a Time in America which made me want to live in 1930s America. (Okay, I'll admit that actually it's Bugsy Malone that makes me want that...)

Tonight's movie was Pride and Prejudice which prompted a sudden desire to live in Georgian England although this is purely down to wanting flawless skin and perfectly curled hair and pretty dresses.

Then I realised that most of the times I'd like to have lived in, I'd want to do so purely for the fashion and immediately hated myself for being such a predictable girl.

I think my love of historical fashions aside I'd go back to the height of the Athenian Empire before it all went downhill. Althought it wouldn't be so brilliant as a girl as I wouldn't be able to experience half the things that I think make it so interesting.

So, if you could live in any period of history, any place, when would it be, where would you be and why?
Everybody is banned from saying you'd prefer to live in the present. You have to be the age you are now and you have to go back to at least before you were born.

That's the way this slightly broken time machine works.

present is what I was going to say but if I can't say that I would go back to the poodle skirts and sock hops! I donno seemed cute the way people acted back in that day .... I think the movie grease had a big impact on this answer too lol

Uhhhh... January 9th 1989? Now don't get me wrong I love the old english and french fashion from the victorian times but I can't give up all the medical and political advances we have had. I like my right to vote and being able to live without fear of dying of a horrible disease. I like being able to get antibiotics if I need them or knowing that if I ever got really hurt that I wouldn't die of bacterial infection. Oh. And having the streets not filled with urine and feces is also nice.

What he said, or the USSR back when Lenin was running it or during the great depression in America (sounds odd but I'd try and spark a revolution

Mm, more or less. It'll get you back within a couple of months of where you started but...ermmm...you have to live in the other time period for erm...6 months while you fix it enough for you to get back anywhere. So you have to be prepared to live there for a bit but know you can return to your original life eventually if you so choose.

(I don't know....I'm bad at making up rules for hypothetical time machines 'kay?!)

Oh... well... if I can choose the place I'd live in feudal Japan. Moreso because they were like the only culture which valued cleanliness. *shudders* And they worried about Queen Elizabeth when she asked for monthly baths instead of the recommended yearly.
