That's right... I bought myself a white female ferret. The best part is how I got it:

One of my friend's goes up to me on tuesday and asks me if I want a ferret.. obviously there's only one right answer to that kind of question: "FUCK YEAH!"... long story short, he needed to get rid of it since he had bought it for his girlfriend, but his gf's mom didn't want the thing in their house so it was either they have it killed or sell it. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't of had it killed, but either way I wanted it.

In total I got the cage, accessories, and the ferret got all his shots and stuff... in all he says it was worth 500(200 for the ferret and 300 for cage and accessories). I paid 300.

I haven't been this happy in such a long time... the little thing just puts a smile to my face each time I see her.

Anyone else here got a ferret? If so.. any first-timer tips? (Don't worry, I've done my research and I know what I'm in for)

Don't hit it to discipline it, that promotes poor behavior.

Get another ferret so it won't get lonely tongue.gif

I'm so very very jealous of you right now. That is my future pet right there sad.gif.

No tips I'm afraid, never owned a ferret, though I did walk one and feed it every day for a couple of weeks tongue.gif.

Just be very careful about his little harness thing when you take it for a meander out of it's cage, they're squirmy buggars and can get out of it when you'd think it was plenty snug enough. Obviously you don't want to be strangling it though tongue.gif.

Lol, ferrets are awesome! Just make sure you don't get bitten by the little critter... I've heard that can be quite nasty.

Ferrets are cool.

Not as cool as my pet monkey though.
Which, admittedly, I don't own yet... but when I get one, he'll totally own ferrets tongue.gif

My brother had ferrets. Tricky little buggers, they always found a way into the lower cabinets, so we'd always have to re-wash our pots and pans and such. You should get a second, as pyke mentioned. You can get them for $100 from a pet store (around where I live anywho).

DUDE! No way man! I love ferrets, hamsters, and the sorts alike. I've only had my share of hamsters, so if ferrets are anything like them, I would just suggest giving them toilet rolls or small cardboard boxes to play with. So is she all white or white and black?

Mine didn't; besides the cardboard, there were some legos and a hamster wheel.

Actually, they're very different, but somewhat comparable. They aren't rodents, but come from the weasel family.

So I made sure that I had plenty of soft toys. I should also be going to the pet store this weekend for some extra things, so I might buy her a few different types of toys.

Legos can be dangerous... if one was to swallow that it could/would cause a blockage. I would compare their intelligence to one of a cat... perhaps even more. they can come when you call their name, learn tricks such as standing or rolling and they definitely recognize you.

Omfg. Chris's ferrets are SO. FUCKING. CUTE.

I love the little buggers. They're adorable and they do some of THE funniest things. They like to squirm when I try to hold them though. And they shit A LOT. But that's ok. Their cuteness makes up for it.

Here's a picture of his male ferret. His name is Osiris:

Sorry for the shitty ass quality. Camera phone. 1we8.gif

The female is a whitish/yellow color and is named Isis. I don't have a picture of her. sad.gif I phails.

Anyways. Great little creatures. I did a persuasive speech on why people should own ferrets as pets, and
I brought them as visual aids. When I finally took them out of what I had them in, Isis decided she needed
to go bafroom so she went straight to a corner and started to poop. My teacher thought it was funny though.
Hehehehe.

Chris's ferrets have never bitten me... but I heard they're not too fond of baths. O.O

My ferrets have NEVER bitten me. Weird.

Like Brooke said, they own all. tongue.gif Most awesome pets ever. Try to play with them as often as you can, let them run around a lot, watch out for reclining chairs and the like. They will try to crawl down any hole they find, period.

I can;t let my ferrets run rampant because of all the holes in my walls, and my fucking dogs. dry.gif

BTW, yeah. They shit A LOT. Keep the cage clean, don;t buy the shitty Marshall's ferret litter, Tidy Cats is half the price and you can use a pooper scooper with it.

Can you train ferrets to not poop everywhere?

They will ONLY poop in a corner. Only ONE corner per room too. So find teh corner and drop a litter box. Problem solved.

What if you block off the corners? I'd like a ferret but picking up poop everywhere or buying dozens of litterboxes doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks for the tips. I have some purina absorbant stuff.. it looks like grey ferret food.

You can definitely potty train them.. which is what I'm doing right now. Each time she needs to poop or pipi I drop her in her litter.. sometimes she'll go alone, but it's really 50% right now.
