I'm sure get the joke; it just isn't as whimsical or funny per usual.
All of the things listed in "In Popular Culture" are pieces of his subculture, our subculture, the Wiki subculture--nerds. One could also draw humor from the fact that the "In Popular Culture" section even exists under something like wood, jabbing heartlessly at the Wiki community's jugular.
