Personally, I can't stand it. its laggy, and its ugly, and it takes the control out of my hands and into the hands of some subroutine. I hate when I goto a website and its all Ajax'd up. I equate it with foobar now. Its just that bad. Does anyone actually like Ajax interfaces?

Badly designed ajax is no different from badly designed html. 1we8.gif There can be examples of good design though, it's not a problem inherent to ajax itself.

Ajax is great, i love using it and designing with it. Makes previously ugly large html pages nice and dynamic.

If you don't know what it is, it's where you may be on a site and say you clicked a link "view comments", the page loads comments for something without refreshing itself.

Here some examples of my ajax: here, here. (You must signin to see these) here, here AND ajax poker.

Never heard of Ajax, but it's pretty sweet when a page does something without refreshing, I was trying to learn that in CSS last night actually but I don't know if it's possible and if it is I don't know how tongue.gif

lol no it can't, that uses java, ajax, php and mysql tongue.gif CSS just controls the style sheet, it doesn't modify any content.

Ajax is faster than loading an entire new page through the browser, what's not to like about it?

Like flash sites it means that you can't really use the back button. It's also not good for people who have to use screen readers (like people with sight problems). It can also reduce ad revenues because pages aren't being reloaded fully and you can't really bookmark any of the pages (which also makes it difficult for analytics). 1we8.gif

Reduces bandwidth usage and ensures data on a page is up to date.

You just got to make sure that the benefits of using ajax outweighs the costs.

In terms of ad revenue, I can see it being a real problem in the future. The whole industry will have to come up with a new way to base payments other than page views. I don't like the fact that sites like facebook use ajax for everything. Its just irking to see popups asking me things.

Simple things like GoogleSuggest don't bother me. This is where I'm okay with ajax being used, as it isn't taking away from pageviews or user control. I can still type what I want, and search what I want. Many sites use similar suggestion methods in ajax, and I think its a good development. What I can't stand is over use.

Actually, my browser gets stuck using gmail sometimes. Whether from signal strength fluctuating or from some other error, gmail is rather glitchy in its alax state. I reverted mine to simple html.

Red what you think of MyAssistant? 1we8.gif
MyAssistant seems to work fine. I'm not a regular user of it though. I will say that the Report Center mod sometimes goes fubar. Like if I click on a report, it confuses the browser. I can't click on my back button to get to the previous page, because firefox thinks the previous page was the report center itself. Little things like this annoy me in daily browsing.

My only experience of it is in a browser game I play. The game is written in PHP, and combat involved clicking buttons and/or using drop-down lists. Then the creator added an AJAX-based combat action bar, which works just like the WoW action bar. I can drag and drop items and skills into it, plus each button has a keyboard shortcut, ending the old click-fest.

Makers of greasemonkey scripts for the game can plug their scripts into the combat action bar's AJAXness somehow, which makes variable handling and storage a lot easier (e.g. a script counting many times you've done a particular action won't lose count because your browser crashed).

So, for browser games, it's great. And what finer use of the internet and programming is there? tongue.gif

Sorry, gravedig, sue me.

Its just that I saw something else that bothers me. I was looking around facebook and it like gave me this HUGE url that wasn't doing anything special.

CODE
http://www.facebook.com/s.php?q=Alexandra&n=67108977&k=100000020&sf=p&init=q&s=10&hash=be9e845b0b2df753a7de42c87f0251d1&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Fq%3Diedra%26n%3D67108977%26k%3D100000020%26sf%3Dr%26init%3Dq

I mean, what the hell is that? I have no idea what that is. its like its all stored on your computer and its accessing it from RAM memory or something. Eww! Eww!

Dude, noit! This neoalerts thing is really cool. It seems like if you really want to get down and train for a couple hours, thats a REALLY good way to keep track of everything. How long did it take you to get the bypasses for the tarla thing? or to find all the events and such?

thats a REALLY cool idea! to have it all hardcoded to the site instead of a program! Noit, when did you come up with this idea? I feel like I ignored it for some reason and I sincerely regret it!

That link just specifies a shit load of parameters for the next page... maps and forums can get links that long, it doesn't affect you in the slightest.
