Anyone here from Chicago or know any must-sees/what-to-do in Chicago?

I'm getting dropped off alone while my dad goes on business and have nothing to do. Anyone have any tips other than ride the subway around all day long?

I live an hour from chicago.

There's tons of things to do. You might want to check out the Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Natural History, Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum.

You can read more about the museums here

You can also check out navy pier. Tons of markets/stores, right on on lake michigan:
QUOTE
Twenty-nine miles of lakefront parks and beaches provide the perfect setting for outdoor activities such as swimming, beach volleyball, cycling, rollerblading, sunbathing, picnicking, golfing and jogging. The free-admission Lincoln Park Zoo, Buckingham Fountain and magnificent outdoor sculptures are among the attractions located in Chicago's parks.

Navy Pier is Chicago's playground on the lakefront. Take a ride on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel or board a Lake Michigan boat cruise for a spectacular view of Chicago's world-famous skyline. Don't miss Navy Pier's Crystal Gardens, large-screen I-MAX theater and Skyline Stage.

You also should check out (if your not afraid of heights) the sears tower skydeck tour, and the hancock observatory. Amazing views up there. You can see all of chicago, and even michigan and other surrounding states.

There aren't that many "thugs" in the downtown part of the city, more homeless people.

Chicago:
by: Carl Sandburg

Hog Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders:
They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I have seen your painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys.
And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again.
And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the faces of women and children I have seen the marks of wanton hunger.
And having answered so I turn once more to those who sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer and say to them:
Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.
Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job on job, here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the little soft cities;
Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action, cunning as a savage pitted against the wilderness,
Bareheaded,
Shoveling,
Wrecking,
Planning,
Building, breaking, rebuilding,
Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with white teeth,
Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs,
Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,
Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse, and under his ribs the heart of the people, Laughing!
Laughing the stormy, husky, brawling laughter of Youth, half-naked, sweating, proud to be Hog Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation.

One of my favorite poems, it was written in 1916 but amazingly it's still accurate today.

I fell in love again. Drove to Chicago--All things know, all things know. We sold our clothes to the state; I don't mind, I don't mind. I made a lot of mistakes in my mind... in my mind.

Basically, just don't go.

Whatever you do avoid areas like Lawndale, South Austin, and Englewood especially. Highest crime areas in Chi-town. There are just some places tourists shouldn't go. Stay around certain downtown areas and you'll be good though.
