He will grow up to be a winner, for sure. tongue.gif

EDIT: Maybe I should read the article next time. It's a unique career choice, that's for sure. tongue.gif

I play guitar hero a lot, but not that much. As it said,

As the story notes, top gamers on the competitive circuit can earn up to $80,000 a year (though $25,000 is more common). Peebles, of course, can count his 52 Chick-fil-A combo meals toward that total.

I don't see him making a life off it.. espically if he wants a family... or a car for that matter blink.gif

Wow.. that's pretty ridiculous. Dropping out isn't the smartest move, but as long as he's still getting educated, I don't see much of a problem.

So is this:

One gamer, quoted at the end of the linked article, says that in eight years his total earnings are about $25,000 total, and that's including a national championship in Halo 2.

25,000 in 8 years?! So not worth it.

That's like me telling my mom and dad i'm going to drop outta school to focus on Neopets. Or call of duty. Which ever sounds worse.

That is not the smartest thing to do, tossing away an education for video games is the dumbest thing you can do, atleast finish school.

It's every teens dream. Get paid to play games. But at what cost? No education. No freinds. Tons of acne? Not for me smile.gif

I never understood why so many people put so much dedication into that game. He should have picked up a real guitar and geared that time towards that.

If he has the skill to compete, I would support him. Few people are able to stay in the scene for over a few years, but those who can adapt and transfer over into other games can make good money.

it might be irrelevant, but it helps you get a little bit more money than a GED does.

See I disagree with that. To be honest...I didn't graduate when I was supposed to...instead I ran off and got married. I worked along side people that had a GED/HS Diploma and I got paid the exact amount they did...a lot jobs (notice I said a lot) don't check to see if you graduated because they assume everyone has. I have worked for major banking industries (that hold tons of info) without my diploma or GED. I understand that most places that I've worked have been decent jobs, not anything super great, but it paid my bills and got me stuff I needed. I think the kid should go for it anyway...as long as he is getting an education thats all that matters (yes, I eventually got my dipolma). Everyone has dreams, let him try and live his. Who knows, he could become like the guys from Grandma's Boy!!!! lol.

I wish I could get paid to play video games professionally.
The Halo 3 Pros, the top 3 teams anyway, have one million dollar contracts.

Now that I think about it, he isn't losing much. He still does get the education... but in the end, it's his call
