Question... who really cares? By talking about them you are instantly promoting them. In fact you just told a huge amount of people who they are when they had no idea who the fuck you were talking about Target has been doing those commercials for YEARS with about 50 different bands covering that song. The Jonas Brothers were not the only ones so I don't see why you're bashing them for that. They're just the latest to do it. Oh and keep in mind these guys are just kids probably still under the tight control of their parents who are probably having a huge spending spree over their little baby dollar signs. If anything you should feel sorry for them.
Think about how many of you would do that for the paycheck. Don't just say you wouldn't do it because the majority of you would despite being high and mighty about it. If anything it's not the artists you should be bitching about. It's not their problem and they just do whatever the recording company tells them to do. The majority of them cannot afford to be on their own recording their own music so of course they're going to charge high prices for CDs and cannot put in double CDs. THE RECORDING COMPANIES WON'T LET THEM. A lot of artists, however, do let people download their albums for free or allow people to give what they think it's worth like Radiohead.
And not all rappers preach about sex, drugs, money, etc. While I personally dislike rap there are plenty of artists out there right now that have a shitload of meaning to their music. Listen to Nas or at least read his lyrics and you'd understand.

^that has tons of meaning.
Oh and about anime... American cartoons especially the disney animal characters like mickey and donald duck have HUGE eyes and HUGE mouths and I don't quite hear you complaining about them. It's a type of stylization and while it is indeed whored it is a form of art. They can be just as stupid and pointless as American cartoons.
And you know what? Stop blaming the TV companies for what you see on TV. They just do what gets the most ratings. It's how business works. How about you instead blame the REAL problem AKA the parents and the general public?

Saw Metallica last night, they obviously sold out. Still fucking rocks though, so who cares?

well the other bands made the song sound half-way fresh again, they just added their emo-styled pop twist to it.
