It better be worth it.

It pertains to Arts & Graphics, since it's due to them that I am in so much pain!

It's meant to be to prepare you for the real world. If you're going to make any money in art you better be prepared to work your ass off because at first you're not going to get anything close to minimum wage. They're making sure you love it enough to stick by it and do this for the rest of your life. Consider all the work a big favor tongue.gif

It's paying off I guess.
I just got my midterm marks, and I'm acing everything except for Intro to Photography (the teacher gave everyone C's since she never collected work - what the hell).

That's pretty fucked up. If that keeps to the end of the grade you should appeal that.

Yes, but were you aware that the concepts for firearms and military planes all run through a team of a designers, who most likely studied industrial and military design in school.

You seem to be unaware that everything man-made has to be conceptualized by an artist or a designer: buildings, cars, bottles, even the cigarette cartons you buy every day. Don't belittle the people responsible for creating the world you live in.

Why do people think getting a BFA is so easy?
Let me give you the lowdown on my previous night of homework.

I had to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and do 200 sketches.
I then had to a five page formal analysis of a lamp.
Next I had to come up with 3 poster designs for the new lecture series at Parsons.
On top of that I have to keep three sketchbooks for three of my classes up to date at least 2-3 pages every night.

A lamp...

I don't see why everyone is riding his balls though. The shit is hard for him and that's what he's bitching about. Doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it's a real profession or not.

I'd shoot myself if I went to a Design School. It's not that it's necessarily brain racking, but the workload alone is insane.

I think it's one of the largest workloads besides maybe Architecture or Literature.

I think the workload is just as high as most courses. The only reason I think art and design is 'easier' is because it involves lots of sketches and drawings instead of huge essays, not because of the amount of work. That's not necessarily a bad thing though.

To be fair five pages is a fairly longish essay. Well to me it is anyway, but I do mathematics tongue.gif.

Out of curiosity Urban, how many hours of lecture/seminar/whatever you want to call it time do you have a week?

The reason it's easier is because you're just not given as much homework and you don't midterms or exams. That and sketching for 4 hours straight is a lot easier than 4 hours of reading a fucking econ book.

Let me paint you a picture of my past 2 weeks:
-Last Wednesday was my business mid term which I spent all of thursday, early friday, monday, tuesday, and early wed studying for..
-Had a calc quiz on friday
-tuesday I had a business quiz which I got a 66 on ^^
-Also had to submit a group report on my business idea
-I had a bio exam today on 5 lectures.. I'm pretty sure I spent at least 15 hours studying for that

And this is all pretty much a weekly routine but you can add a multitude of other assignments to that list. I regularly spend 5 hours every weekday doing work, and when midterms roll around I pretty much spend an entire week sheltered from the world and I expect to sleep no more than 5 hours a night lol. I'm only taking 4 classes this semester.. idk what I would have done if I hadn't qualified out of writing.

I don't doubt that you have a lot of work, but I think that's just college dude. If anything, you're better off than other majors tongue.gif especially the engineering/med kids o.o

Idk kid.. advanced stats and econ get pretty damn tough. and accounting is just absolutely horrid to get through. I don't doubt that the sciences or mathematics majors have it worse off, but if you're in a half-decent business program, it is not going to be easy.

atleast with math and science, it's real world stuff. You go into econ and it's like learning in another language.. gets really tricky to grasp some of the concepts.

Er. Maybe it's just me but I really don't do a lot of work for my major...

I have a
Human-Robotics Interaction
Thermofluids
High Speed Aerodynamics
C.A.D.
Rocket Propulsion
Essentials of Astrobiology
-Lab
Vibration Analysis
Quantum Theory

courseload. I work 3 jobs and keep >3.6 GPA in my courses. I don't see really any time where I'm nearly dying of homework. In fact, I believe I rarely spend more than 7 hours a week doing it...

That's why this workload of 'sketching for 2-3 hours' a day seems scary to me. Too much time doing homework.
