i'm planning to buy the radeon 4850 since it is the best value card out there.

should i shell out a couple extra bucks for the core and memory clock or just get the base model and whichever is cheapest?

let me know what you think

i like efficiency over minimal gains in performance since most games right now don't require a 4870 and it will depreciate very very fast.

All technology depreciates in time and scales poorly with the price to performance ratio.

We can't all game on 17' CRT Monitors where there is nearly no difference but the faster clock speed on the 4870.

Get a 4870, install some GOOD CUSTOM drivers and tell me there's no difference between the framerate with a 4850 compared to a 4870 with all settings maxed with AA on a 2560x1600 resolution.

and the 4870 depreciates much faster since the price//performance ratio of the 4850 won't be beat for some time.

again, i prefer value, you prefer performance (which the 4870 is quite capable of)

I own 2 8800GT's, 1 4850, and 1 GTX260


Get a 4870. It's $230, or $200 after rebate. Not too much, not even worth complaining about value and price compared to a 4850.

Most technology is out of date before it's even released to general consumers.
