I'm having deja vu about posting about this a while ago. Anyway, having some odd troubles sleeping. I tend to lay around in bed for hours trying to sleep, and even when I'm exhausted it still takes me a while. Also, when I wake up, I cannot go to back to sleep, no matter how tired I am or how long I've slept for. I've only talked to one person about it (recently anyway) and they've told me it's because I tend about things too much and it bothers me to the point where I cannot sleep. I agree with that to a point, but I would imagine I would be too tired to think of anything too complicated. It's probably all in my head, but the more I try to tell myself that, the more I think, the more I can't sleep, etc.

It's gotten to the point where I just stay up and don't even want to try to sleep because it feels like a waste of time just laying there for hours. I've tried listening to some music, which sometimes works. Other times the headphones will feel uncomfortable or I feel like the sound is keeping me awake. I'd try drinking some warm milk, but I'm allergic.

Anyone experience something similar? Or have any suggestions at all? I'm open to trying most anything.

Work out. If you're not really expending any energy, you're going to have a harder time sleeping.

Get a notepad and write down whatever your thinking about. That way, you know that its on paper and won't forget a possibly important thought. Then if your up to anything, try meditation...I know a lot of people think its gay, but seriously it does relax you. You can do it while your lying down in bed. If you want I can get you a few websites that have simple ones that anyone can do to help you fall asleep faster. Its not only relaxing, but you should fall asleep quicker.

Do you still have your same schedule as before with having no set sleep schedule and going on the computer non-stop? tongue.gif Generally, that causes a LOT of sleep troubles. Having a set wake up schedule no matter how tired you are helps you get into a rhythm. You should then be acting tired at the same time and hopefully, but not always, start waking up at around the same time. Listening to music to me gives me the opposite effect. I get into the music too much, but that's just the way I am. Have you tried reading before you go to sleep? Also, if you have some extra cash and it won't cost much, have you ever tried melatonin? I know it's sort of a alternative medicine type deal, but it does work for a lot of people myself included.

I actually wake up at a pretty much set time. Usually 7-9am. My step dad is fixing up this house and I've been waking up and going there every morning and painting or doing some other kind of random shit till around 4 or 5pm. Then I come home and eat, then go on the computer. But anyways, that's kind of the problem. I usually stay up till 3-5am, so I only get a few hours of sleep and end up being tired as shit all day.

I don't really have extra money right now but I'll see if I can get some. I talked to a friend about sleeping pills and he said they can fuck you up, but I'm not talking about melatonin, because afaik, it's naturally occurring?

That's a good idea actually. Maybe I will. I'll think about it.

put your computer away
do something physical to tire you out if need be

and when it comes to waking up, wake up at the SAME time every day
not this 7-9 bullshit
make it either 7 or 9, or whatever the fuck you want. it helps
trust me

no sleeping pills either
you'll probably end up depending on them after awhile

I don't think you understand. I AM TIRED. I just can't sleep. I work on that stupid house all day and when I come home I just want to relax. The problem with choosing between 7 or 9, is it's not my decision. And if I get to wake up a little later before I have to work, then I'd rather do that, and get any extra hours I can.

Either way, get off the computer. That's how I am. (tired but cant sleep)
And set a time, I don't care if I sleep 3 hours or 13 hours, for the past two weeks or so I've been getting up at 6:15 during the week. It's helped me go to sleep easier 1we8.gif

What do you usually do? I mean, it's pretty much between going on the computer or watching TV. It's pitch black outside pretty much as soon as I get home. All my friends either live 2+ hours away or are studying/doing homework for college. I'd go work out or something, but like I said, I'm already tired as hell when I get home. PLUS I NEED TO RAID.

Anything I'm not thinking of?

Damn it's not an addiction. I haven't even been playing lately, just for raids. Which is like 3-4 hours, on 3 days. I was just saying that some days that's a reason I'd like to get on the computer for.

If anyone has a thought on how to solve my sleep problems it'd be appreciated:
I wake up 1-3 times a night and freak out that the clock is actually pm instead of am and so I'm meant to be at work or uni, etc. Any time from midnight through to 4am usually. Doesn't happen every night, probably 3-4 times a week. Half the time I don't remember doing it at all.

John is used to it now and knows what to say to get me to stop freaking out, but for some reason I'm developing like... resistence to his logic now.
For instance, he would normally say "It's the middle of the night, it's dark, go back to sleep." Which worked for a while. Except now I start to doubt him or outright refuse to believe him. I even opened the curtains to see what it looked like outside just to check if it was dark. Or I'll jump up and out of bed so quickly that he doesn't get a chance to say anything.

Really, really, really annoying. Help?

That sounds like something you need professional help for.

Anyone who thinks about WoW like that should have their pc destroyed. Damn that's bad.

Kind of, but it's not like I think about it all day. Just right before the raid and right after.

Avoid caffeine.
Set a schedule for a time to fall asleep/wake up. Don't deviate from that.
Get your ass off the computer, especially if you're playing games.

I don't drink caffeine. I'll try to keep my schedule more consistent. I don't see why people keep bringing up the computer, the fact that I lay in bed for hours should kind of tell you guys that I'm not sitting on the computer saying "JEEZ WHY I CANT FALL ASLEEP WHILE SITTING AT MY DESK?"

I know this might sound strange, but if I'm tired and I decide to go bed I do the usual...strip down to boxers and get under the quilt. Along comes sleeping trouble. However sometimes I'm tired and I just go and collapse on my bed knowing that I have to get up again to get into it. For some reason, trying to relax and NOT sleep cause I have something left to do makes me fall asleep so much better than getting in bed and trying to sleep.

They don't mean it like that. If you're raiding up until the point where you go to bed, your brain is still in the mode it was in at your pc playing games. Lying down watching tv or reading a book is usually ideal for that reason.

That is what I was trying to say. Those late night WoW sessions aren't good for your sleep schedule. I know all about that- Winter break + L4D...

On a side note, don't freak out when you notice a trend. Odds are it is being repeated for a reason.

It's not so much that it's being repeated. It's the fact that I've explained things and they are still being repeated. It's 2 or 3 days out of the week that I play WoW, and its only for 3-4 hours. Hell, I haven't even been thinking about WoW and didn't even remember there was a raid tonight till someone sent me an msn message asking if I was gonna log on. That's not gonna prevent me from sleeping every night. I didn't mean to be defensive, but I think people overestimate how much I play. Then again, I don't really blame them because I did play an unhealthy amount not too long ago. Just trust me, WoW is the last thing on my mind when I'm trying to sleep.

But, maybe I'll try reading. I have a pretty scattered mind so I don't read very well, in fact there's only one book series that I've actually been able to read, and there are no new books sad.gif Maybe someone can suggest a good book to read before bed? Something that won't make me afraid to look under my bed.

Yes, it's kind of an e-peen/joke thing that I took from someone else's sig I saw on an mmo site. If you actually knew about WoW you'd know by looking at all the characters that I don't play as much as I did back when those characters were actually played. And it's pretty much impossible to play all 4 of those characters at the same time.

I've always had a problem sleeping.

Drinking a glass of wine helps. Weed gets the job done wonderfully.

Avoid caffeine 4-5 hours before you sleep. Subtle, but caffeine is a stimulant.

Don't do something mind simulating like play video games before sleeping. Reading before you sleep always works.

Exercise definitely helps.
