I've been feeling rather sick so decided to goto the doctors. I described my symptoms and the first thing they said was swine flu. They told me that there is a 30% chance its not swine flu. Now my cousin has it and so do I YAYYY.

Discuss people affected by swine flu

A friend from uni has it. Although apparently we're treating anyone with the symptons so there's some speculation that only something like 1/5 people who are being treated for swine flu actually have it. The rest have a variety of summer colds etc.

Oh that's no good, hope you feel better asap.

A friend of ours recently lost a friend due to swine flu a couple weeks ago. Although most cases where people have died in Auz and NZ are because they already had some sickness that was exacerbated by getting swine flu so I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

I've been put on anti-viral and apparently shouldn't be contagious in 3 days. My girlfriend insists on hanging out with me, that shocked me xD

It's not much different to normal flu and anti-virals aren't a cure, they just knock a day or two off the symptoms so you'll feel better a little bit quicker. People seem to think that they really need anti-virals if they have swine flu/regular flu when it just doesn't work like that. :/

Oh I know and the doctor explained that to me. She told me it might knock 3 days off it but hey I'm not complaining.

There's a difference between "cure" and "treatment." Unfortunately modern medicine is more concerned about producing profitable treatments than producing cures.

Hope you feel better bro.

I'm taking tamiflu and its realllllly helped the symptoms. Yesturday I had a temperature of 39 - 41 today my temperature is 38.1 which is unpleasant but certainly bearable.

@Jake: Yeahh its still around. Its just a life threatening as what it was when people first started being affected by it. People wonder why so many people died in Mexico from the flu. Its easy to see when you look at their health system. All the casualties in my country have had prior medical conditions.

Yeah, I heard that swine flu is pretty bad in Australia right now. :/ In Canada it seems to be affecting the native population pretty hard, and a few people in the major cities but nothing too extreme yet.

First of all. Get a better doctor. If she says - You have swine flu - and not - You have the flu - Then I wouldnt trust her. Swine flu has the same symptoms as other forms of flu, and is basically the same, it just came from a different animal. In a few years Swine Flu will finally be called THE FLU like it should properly be called, because its no more deadly, and no more less deadly.

And your GF is smart, the flu is nothing to be worried about, most people only experience mild symptoms, and its easily handled by your immune system, and only if you have prior medical considers, are under the age of two, or over 56, then you really dont have anything to worry about.

You argue stupid points. It's called the swine flu because it's not the normal strain of flu. It's different. Just like we called the avian flu the avian flu. Just like we say that there is magenta and pink. It's not the same, it's different. Eventually, people wont give a shit.

It's not deadly, it's just on the media because it's new. The media doesn't give the facts it should, it's more intent on worrying people so they watch it.

There were two people at ASU who had the swine flu. The sat in there rooms for a couple of days and went back to class. No one died.

No. In a year/two years, it will be called, Flu. Not Swine flu. but just Flu. Because the Flu is not one strain, but many many strains, all with the same symptoms and effects on the body, that can even be cured or suppressed by the same drug.

You are indeed a dipshit. It doesn't have the same symptoms. It's different, you've said that as well. And you can't cure the flu, it's a goddamn viral infection. Because of it's genetic makeup, it's near impossible to block out the cells of the virus without stopping the functioning of every other part of your body.

Please please please if you're going to try to argue here, use fact and logic. When you're stupid and you just spew shit out of your head, that's just going to make you look like a bigger dumbass.

Guess what? The bird/avian flu broke out in 2005. You know? We still fucking call it that, and it's been 4 years.

We also still call the 1918 flu the "Spanish Flu" and it's been 91 years.... and it's a subtype of the swine flu.
