Prices will fall in the coming weeks. E.g., look up Tales of the Esophagor. I see some for 16k when they reached peaks of 35k.

I believe the TNT editorials even mentioned that the books will no longer be obtainable after this halloween.

Found it:

"I was just wondering: in Edna's Spooky Surprise, why is the prize for completing the 3 quests (Edna's Tower, Esophagor, and Brain Tree) worth so little? The prize my friend got was worth about 7,000 NP. The quests for the Esophagor alone are usually typically unbuyable. Even if the first one does come out cheap, the odds that the second one will as well are VERY slim. Is there any way that the prize can at least be made worth the effort? The quests are not cheap for something so worthless. ~black_sky17

The prize for completing the quest is a unique item only available through this event. The Neopian economy has decided how much the item was worth, so while we are very sympathetic to how expensive those Esophagor quests can be (trust us, plenty of us here did it too and spent a small fortune), we can't control the value of the unique reward. If you're not pleased with the value of the item, remember that it is Rarity 101, and therefore will likely only increase in value over the years. :) Also, as we stated earlier, we're looking at tweaking the quests a bit to offer a better balance of cost and reward."

EDIT: From my experience, the item's value always shoots up during the inflation period then plummets in the next few weeks. I feel old for saying this but does anyone remember the Garin/Scarblade Negg inflation? How about the great snicklebeast inflation?

Generally if you didn't buy in at the cheap stages then you shouldn't buy any at all.

Disclaimer: I own about 5m worth in Tales of the Esophagor and Snicklebeast with buy ins at 10k and 3k respectively.

my post from nov 10th
"Yes but this is a future investment the current buyer market really doesn't matter. But if it does retire there will be a quick jump in price because more people will be able to put 2 and 2 together and see that this will inflate. So if anyone wants a quick profit the possibility may exist."

I had predicted this quick jump in price as well. But i dont plan to jump the bandwagon yet. I will keep it for about 2-5 years and then sell. I just leave it in my SDB and dont worry about it. Thats how i do it. Its simple facts that if an item is running low with it not being created it will rise in price. I had only pointed out the previous for the people who are looking for a quick buck. I really am not looking for a quick buck but an time accumulated fortune.

It will not go up because it is one use. The number in circulation is a lot.

Unless much later, it becomes a favorite of collectors and the stock has dwindled to reasons like "The First Decade"

A weapon is FAR less likely to dwindle down then a book, food or stamp for obvious reasons. I wouldnt bother stocking up on the sword. Check earth stone gem its old, retired and worth 200nps for one if you need some examples.

NOTE:
The dumbest thing you can do with 303 pieces of the book would be to sell it all at once you would over supply the market, set an early price, cause some seller/buyer panic and it would deflate. Sell them at 3-7 at a time if you must sell them at all.

I was just wondering why would an item like the first decade go up so much when books like "My Neighbour the Zombie" are sitting at 7k and not going up. I bet there are more of "the first decade then there are the zombie book.

Does it just have to do with the attention people are giving it and hoping it will become unbuyable?

Ive gotten used to neopets and i bought over 100 of them at 5k and sold 100 of them at 25-30k so i made some good money. the price is already dropping. I just wonder why so many people spend their time on the new items and not the old ones that have been retired for years. Wouldn't it be better to invest in the others.

advent calendar prize. Those come in insanely high volumes. This book was available only through luck for a certain amount of time. Hence why there price solidified at 5k during the event. The book you gave given out to everyone for one whole day hence why it used to be worth 300nps a piece. Advent calander prizes take a long time to inflate

I was just thinking it had more to do with people arent attracted to the old books because they aren't in the spotlight. The 4 year old advent books have been out so long and so many new ppl have joined and many many copies have been used. A lot of the books are probably on accounts that aren't active anymore. There arent even that many on the wiz and with the price at 7k people could hoard a lot more books compared to the people who were buying all my decade books at 30k. I just mean for a fraction of the price people could decide to inflate the old ones and it would probably be much easier because less people would be continuing to fill the wiz with the book they just received and want an easy 30k.

You are correct but the consumers hold a stigma against advent calander prizes. This is the main reason why it inflates so very slowly. I actually proposed a move like this not to long ago within this community but no one was up for it on the basis it was a very easy way for neo to find codex members and freeze us.
