Pocahontas also doesn't give people depression or kill Asians.i don't really care if the story was a ripoff, pocahontas doesn't have horrific alien creatures and biolumiescance. i went to see it nine times... they prettymuch owe me a free dvd.

Story was 7/10
Acting was...well 4/10?
It seems they put so much money into the graphics they couldn't afford good actors...

I have seen so many levels of acting I would have to say, this is one of the better ones.

And I do agree about the acting being poor, only good actor was the women from Aliens, whose name I cannot recall presently.

Avatar would have been an incredible movie if the Na'vi had lost. It would have been such a comment on human barbarism.

That would be Sigourney Weaver.
I thought that Sam Worthington did a good job, but Zoe Saldana was exceptional. It might might seem a little silly praising a CGI character's acting ability but if you've seen how Avatar's motion capture worked, 100% of what the actor did from twitch to movement was translated to a 9 foot blue person.
I had been following the progress of the production of the movie since 2008, and was one of the many disappointed by the trailer that was initially showed. Nevertheless, I went to the midnight showing and was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully he doesn't take 12 damn years to do Battle Angel Alita.

No, I think if it plagiarized Pocahontas any more it would just have been ridiculous.
I thought Avatar was alright, but it was extremely unoriginal and had success solely off of an unstoppable hype machine.
I can think of many movies that deserved the success Avatar had based on quality.

I agree. Avatar's plot is so overused and unoriginal.

I hate vanity projects and Avatar is James Cameron's vanity project. 500 million budget, 14 years to make.. it should have sucked royally. But nope it was awesome.
We saw the 3d version which I strongly suggest you see it in 3d.
Whats it about? Humans want some rare mineral on this planet Pandora. Problem is there are these sweet natured native American type aliens who live there and they don't take kindly to miners. So humans invent "avatars" clones that are 99% alien 1% human and then humans can mind link with these fake aliens and intermingle with the aliens. But one of the avatars falls in love with the beings and their peaceful ways.
Great movie, great visuals and a must see in 3d.
it is a must see movie i had to watch it twice myself which shocked me because i never watch any thing more than once on average and the detail i thought on the characters was awsome
