And not "to each their own" Anorexia is a dangerous mental illness. Its not a "lifestyle choice" its not what the "cool kids are doing". If someone has it and you or anyone knows its its best to get that person help not "to each its own" *sigh*

I agree, it's not something that people choose for themselves. No one wakes up and decides that "today I want to become anorexic or bulimic". What people want is to become skinny, and anorexia is one of the more dangerous pathways to that. It results from a low self confidence.

i know all of this, its just it can be a very sensitive issue, and probably shouldnt be disscussed publicly :/

im not talking about the illness. of course no body "chooses" to go through that, its a psycological illness, and nobody can decide who it happens to, or where or when it happens.
when i said "each to their own" i meant in the sense of disscussing it on public forums.

I probably wouldn't have got over it if I hadn't taken the step to discuss it publicly. :p

Being anorexic isn't that great in short bursts. I was for a while and lost 60 pounds in 2 months - but when I stopped most of it came back. It's better to just go to the gym everyday and eat a moderate diet. It's quite a bit slower but the weight stays off and you become healthier.

Just gonna comment on this because it seems that people don't understand this, especially guys. It pisses me off when people call themselves anorexic when they're not, especially because most teenage girls do it for attention.

Starving yourself for short "bursts" or periods of time is not anorexia, it is a crash diet. Most women go on a crash diet or extreme diet once in their life. In fact, most people that seem to be commenting here about anorexic experiences have experienced "crash diets," not this serious eating disorder.

Anorexic people are "anorexic" all the time, and they will continue to be anorexic and keep losing weight their entire life unless they die or go into recovery and manage to succeed in suppressing those urges, which is rare and extremely difficult, and even then the self-hatred and discomfort remains.

Starving yourself and being perfectly fine going back to a "moderate diet" would be impossible for an anorexic.

idd, it wouldn't be such a serious disease if it was just that
those girls have a really hard time getting back to a 'normal' weight

I should have been more specific.

People at my school who do nothing whatsoever and are just lucky with a kick ass metabolism.

Yeah, I have to watch everything I eat and work out atleast 4 times per week... while my boyfriend can eat ANY, and I mean any, kind of food with no working out . and he doesnt gain anythin.

But don't stop eating :3
