October 21, 2010 will be the annual Love Your Body Day. At first I wasn't going to celebrate it because the official creators of Love Your Body Day released some ads for it that basically pissed off me and the rest of the Women's Center on my campus, but then we decided that even if they want to go about it the wrong way we're going to fix the flaws with love your body day and hopefully help some people. We're throwing this huge health expo where people will learn how to be healthy, snack healthy, exercise, and love their bodies by taking care of it. And the Women's Center is putting on a fashion show where any woman/man can walk down the runway in whatever they want, as long as they're not naked.

Are you guys doing anything for love your body day? Any community events? Or are you guys just hearing about it now?

Never even heard of it to be honest. And I dont wanna wait untill the 21st of october before I learn those things So very much doubt Ill be doing anything special that day.. besides my normal routine xD

Yeah it's originally a day planned for Women, because women do get critiqued more for their bodies, in fact they say that a woman worries about her body every 15 minutes. But we feel these days everyone feels some pressure to look good. It's more about a self esteem type thing, but the the website kind of wants to turn it into a "big is beautiful" type thing but we don't want it to be that. We do want everyone to feel comfortable in their own skin, and imo the fact that they keep releasing ~*~*love your body*~*~~ ads that are photoshoped to death [for example] pretty much defeats the purpose. So that's why we decided to do our own fashion show and we got the money to do personal photoshoots. I think this event is going to be so awesome, I'm really excited for it. And we decided to ad on the health expo since they were planning on doing one anyway, and part of loving your body is treating it well.

I shan't be doing anything. I'm fairly fond of my body year round which seems a much better way of being rather than attaching that significance to one day.

This would be counterintuitive from a grad student's perspective; any celebration calls for beer / bar visit, oh well.
